What you'll do:

Underwriter III will be responsible for the complete underwrite of Conventional loans and either FHA or VA mortgage loans. This requires that a UW III have a Direct Endorsement (DE) designation and a HUD-assigned CHUMS number, or active VA credit authority. A UW III may also be responsible for evaluating creditworthiness on Jumbo, non-conforming, non-agency loans as well as performing property analyses or appraisal reviews to establish that subject property collateral is acceptable.

What we are looking for:

•  Underwrite and evaluate the creditworthiness of borrowers for FHA, FNMA, FHLMC, and Jumbo loan programs ensuring that loans meet investor standards, internal company guidelines.
•  Credit decisions for FHA “refer” loans.
•  Review and analyze borrower profiles, credit reports, title reports, income documentation, and assets, including complex business returns and financials.
•  Accurately calculate income for borrowers while analyzing loan risk and request additional information/condition loan as necessary.
•  Structure loans according to investor and company requirements and credit quality.
•  Assess and respond to fraud indicators.
•  Determine eligibility for private mortgage insurance.
•  As needed, perform property analysis or appraisal review to establish that subject property collateral is acceptable.
•  Structure loans according to investor and company requirements and credit quality.
•  Document and effectively communicate approval and denial reasons.
•  Manage individual pipeline on a daily basis by completing initial reviews, clear to close reviews and other Underwriting Tasks within established turn times.
•  Meet minimum productivity and quality standards established by a line of business.
•  Meet compliance, regulatory, and company standards as required by line of business.
•  Work additional hours as needed.
•  Other duties as assigned.

What you need to have:

•  5+ years mortgage industry experience, with 2+ years current or recent underwriting experience.

•  High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
•  Direct Endorsement (DE) CHUMS or VA Credit authority is required.
•  Current experience and core-competency with automated underwriting systems including Desktop Underwriter, Loan Prospector, and FHA Connection, and/or VA Portal.
•  Core-competency in navigating and interpreting FNMA, FHLMC, FHA, or VA and company guidelines.
•  Independent decision-making with strong problem-solving skills.
•  Customer service driven: responsiveness to internal customers and team members' issues and   concerns.
•  Strong working knowledge of Encompass 360.                                             

•  Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment.
•  Has the ability to communicate effectively and professionally.
•  Competency in written and verbal communication skills.
•  Self-reliant and able to work independently.
•  Can multi-task and prioritize successfully.
•  Ability to learn and adapt to product, guidelines, and market changes.
•  Working knowledge in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, etc.).
•  Experience in a high production and fast-paced environment.
•  Excellent time management skills.
•  Strong attention to detail.
