We are seeking a Principal-level Software Engineer to join the team in the design and development of scalable, data-intensive applications within the grid planning and power engineering domain. This role is ideal for a senior technologist who combines strong full-stack development expertise with a data engineering mindset and a passion for building highly scalable complex software systems. 

You will play a key role in shaping system architecture and data flows, implementing new data analysis methods and application features, optimizing performance, and deploying solutions that take advantage of modern cloud-native storage and compute technologies. 

Responsibilities

• Architect, design, and implement full-stack software solutions (backend-focused with frontend integration as needed)

• Develop and maintain robust services using Python, Java and related frameworks

• Design, implement, and optimize SQL/relational database schemas and queries

• Work closely with domain experts in power systems / power engineering to translate requirements into technical solutions

• Lead performance analysis and optimization across application and data layers

• Apply a data engineering mindset to system design, focusing on scalability, reliability, and observability

Required Qualifications

• Principal-level experience as a full-stack software developer, with expertise in Python and working knowledge of Java

• Strong architectural and design thinking 

• Working knowledge of SQL and relational databases

• Experience developing applications for cloud environments

• Willingness and interest in working within the power engineering domain

• Understanding of basic Linux and networking concepts

Nice to Have

• Experience with Snowflake, Databricks, or similar data platforms

• Experience with JavaScript 

• Experience with messaging systems (e.g., Kafka, JMS, or similar)

• Background in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems
