About the role:

As a Technical Lead, your role will involve designing and solving problems in large, distributed systems.

This a Software Engineering role where around 70% of your time will be spent on hands on coding/developing software in Java. The ideal candidate is passionate about building customer-focused products, and collaborating with product management, design and frontend developers.

Our services need to do a lot of work very quickly, and we rely heavily on performant technologies to help achieve these goals. We write lots of microservices, primarily with Java 17. Our APIs are RESTful and use the minimal Dropwizard framework. We take advantage of Kafka, Spark, Hadoop for processing large volumes of data.

We are looking for people who:

  • Lead a small team of engineers where autonomy and flexibility are core values.
  • Help set the direction for the continued evolution of backend development at HubSpot
  • Some previous team or technical lead experience is required - managing engineers or projects and taking responsibility for the team’s software design and delivery.
  • Wish to stay hands-on in all technical aspects while leading a small team of engineers
  • Outstanding communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively influence stakeholders and build strong cross-functional relationships
  • Consistently demonstrate strong ownership of projects end to end, a track record of successfully rolling out infrastructure, and collaborating with multiple engineering teams to deliver successful solutions.
  • Are comfortable performing code reviews, coaching, and mentoring engineers.
  • Consistently work to deliver reliable, performant, well-tested code.
  • Have a customer-centric attitude and develop opinions about the HubSpot product
  • Are serious about their career and technical growth.
