The National Institute of Education invites suitable applications for the position of Research Assistant on a 5-month contract, full-time (100%) basis at the Centre for Research in Child Development (CRCD).

Project Title: Development of a Holistic Progress Tool for the Early Childhood Sector

Project Introduction:

This project aims to develop a “Holistic Progress” (HOP) Tool that early childhood educators can use to observe and monitor children’s holistic development in the second year of kindergarten (i.e., at age 6 or K2). Phase 1 of the project will focus on the development of the first cut of the teacher-completed HOP Tool (HOP V1) and preliminary guides for tool completion. In Phase 2, we will pilot HOP V1 and the tool completion guide with 200 K2 educators and refine the tool based on psychometric data and stakeholder feedback to develop HOP V2.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Education, or a related field  
• Proficiency in both written and spoken English and Mandarin is required, to translate research materials between the two languages and to conduct orientation sessions with teachers in Mandarin on how to use the research instruments.
• Experience in translating academic materials and research instruments
• Background in research methodology preferred
• Experience in early childhood settings is a plus

Responsibilities:

• Translate research materials, instruments and data
• Prepare research instruments for data collection
• Conduct orientation sessions with preschool Mother Tongue Teachers
• Assist with data analysis and interpretation
• Liaise and work closely with project team members and stakeholders from external institutions
• Perform other tasks as required by the Principal Investigator
