Patient Transportation Aide

As a Patient Transportation Aide, you will be responsible for delivering exceptional service to our patients as you will be playing an essential role in helping them receive the care they need. Patient Transportation Aides quickly become familiar with all areas of the hospital while leaving lasting impressions on our patients and visitors.
A caregiver in this position works days, from 9:00am—5:30pm.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Transport patients and their personal property using wheelchairs, carts, and beds through the admission, discharge, and transfer procedures.
Transport patients with or without IV's and with or without oxygen to and from physical therapy, occupational therapy, radiology, radiation oncology, physiology and other departments, including the morgue as necessary.
Clean, sanitize and account for transportation equipment, wheelchairs, patient carts, etc.
Store equipment in designated areas.
Provide wheelchairs for ACC, other areas and visitors.
Restock portable oxygen tanks.
Respond to all transport requests with a sense of urgency.
Activate and complete tasks at the start or end location via phone system.
Notify nursing caregivers, clinicians, technicians or reception upon arrival of the patient.
Complete required logs and forms including the Critical Information form.
Verify correct patient identification through appropriate means (i.e. armband, chart, pager, DOB, etc.), verify proper mode of transportation and confirm standard precautions.
Assist nursing caregivers (or directly) in bedding patients or moving patients from bed into wheelchair or onto stretcher, etc.
Consult with nursing caregivers before lifting and transferring patients and obtain assistance when necessary.
Complete transports quickly and efficiently and immediately notify dispatchers when assignments are initiated, completed, or when delays/cancellations are encountered.
Proactively notify dispatch of patient delays or extensive wait times in patient holding areas.
Understand and apply knowledge of basic patient transport concepts, infection control practices, and proper body mechanics for lifting and moving patients.
Utilize proper body mechanics when lifting and transferring patients to and from wheelchairs, stretchers or beds, etc.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
High school diploma or GED.
Demonstrated interest aptitude.
Has genuine concern and care for patients’ welfare.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and transfer patients requiring much assistance with minimal help.
