Internship Program Overview: Our 2025 Summer Internship Program is a paid 10-12-week internship program, scheduled to begin on June 2, 2025. Interns are expected to work full-time throughout the summer.  

Summer interns will join an intern class consisting of undergraduate and graduate students to work on exciting projects in one of EDC’s many dynamic departments. Summer Interns will also participate in training programs, networking events, and other professional development opportunities over the course of the program.  

Our Summer 2025 Internship Program application deadline is Monday, December 2. All materials must be submitted by EOD that date – incomplete or late applications will not be considered. 

Department Overview: The Strategic Investments Group (“SIG”) makes impact investments to drive inclusive economic development. SIG executes transactions utilizing an array of market-based financing solutions. These include incentives (such as discretionary tax benefits, tax-exempt bond financing, and tax credits) as well as the deployment of loans and equity investments. The intern will work on transactions across SIG’s verticals, and on special projects that further develop the team’s goals 

Intern Responsibilities: 

  • Review applications for loans and equity investments. Requires developing an understanding of SIG’s various funds, their structures, and their impact and financial objectives.   
  • Review applications for tax incentive and tax-exempt bond financing programs from for-profit and not-for-profit clients. Requires developing an understanding of tax incentive and tax-exempt bond financing programs that are available through the New York City Industrial Development Agency, the Build New York City Resource Corporation, and the New Markets Tax Credit program. 
  • Conduct financial analysis of applicant projects and facilitate other due diligence, including environmental, legal and background checks. 
  • Support team members in the development of materials that drive decision-making. This includes building financial models, developing internal presentations, and writing investment memorandums. 
  • Present due diligence findings and investment recommendations to deal teams, in written and verbal form. 
  • Assist with portfolio monitoring and reporting. 
  • Support engagement with external parties, including real estate developers, not-for-profits, financial institutions, lawyers, consultants, industry associations, and other agencies. 
  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative research on how to further develop and expand SIG’s programs. 

Qualifications & Requirements: 

  • Preferred field(s) of study: Public Policy & Administration, Finance, Economics  
  • Must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program; recent graduates are also encouraged to apply 
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm for the mission of NYCEDC 
  • Demonstrated written, verbal, and analytical skills  
  • Proven ability in using Excel and PowerPoint 
  • Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to multi-task and manage deadlines 
  • Proactive and able to work in collaborative, cross-functional teams 
  • Must be able to work full-time and complete the entirety of the 10-week program 

Salary Target: $19.00/hour (undergraduate-level students); $24.00/hour (graduate-level students)
