Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems sector is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Redondo Beach, CA.

In this role you will:

  • Execute engineering design projects on schedule (BTPs, Mod Drawings, Production, and Modernization)

  • Utilize 3D CAD using CATIA V5 to generate new conceptual layouts, detailed engineering designs of subsystem components, secondary structure, modifications, drawing generation and reviews

  • Enter CATIA V5 models and supporting documentation into the program Product Data Management (PDM) database and verify 3D models are accurately converted and properly displayed in the Visualization Mockup environment.

  • Support the creation of reports to document findings of projects

  • Provide support to the production floor as required to ensure the team has the latest engineering definition to support aircraft build

  • The individual must have good team collaboration, good writing and documentations skills. The individual most work well under pressure and while delivering first time quality when releasing the engineering in the program Product Data Management (PDM) database. 


This position can be filled at either the Principal Engineer or Sr. Principal Engineer level.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Basic qualifications for a Principal Engineer Avionics include a Bachelor's in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) and at least 5 years of experience, a Master's Degree in STEM with 3 years of experience, or a PhD Degree with no experience

  • Basic qualifications for a Sr. Principal Engineer Avionics include a Bachelor's in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) and at least 8 years of experience, a Master's Degree in STEM with 6 years of experience, or a PhD Degree with 3 years of experience

  • Ability to obtain a DOD Secret clearance within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs (US citizenship is a pre-requisite)

  • Experience using 3D modeling software (CATIA, NX)

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all levels of employees and management.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated hands on experience in the use of CATIA V5 in an aerospace environment

  • Experience in creating engineering layouts from conceptual design to BTP phase

  • Working knowledge and application of GD&T principles

  • Ability to prepare and deliver presentations in front of engineering change boards

Salary Range: $107,300.00 - $160,900.00Salary Range 2: $133,000.00 - $199,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
