Male Support Worker

Birkenshaw

Due to a change in the Service user’s requirements, we are looking for a Male Support Worker to join our team for a service user that has been with us for many years.

This is a 48hr package for 1 person or could be split between 2 for 24hrs packages. You will be required to work 09.00 until 21.00 being paid an hourly rate of £12.32 and then from 21.00 until 09.00 on a sleepover being paid £12.00 an hour. 

We are Mears Supported Living Ltd, providing a range of care and support services to people out in the community and in their own homes to enable them to stay as independent as they can.

About the Role:

This is a 24hr package for this service user due to them now living in their own home their required hours have increased. You will also be required to work every second weekend.

A driving license is required for this role as the service user has a mobility car and enjoys going out in the car.

You don’t need to have previous experience in this field, nor do you need qualifications – we’re happy to work with you to help you become an excellent care worker. Above all we want someone that shares in our values.

About Them:

Our service user is 25, he has Ataxic Cerebral Palsy, learning Disability and Autism spectrum Disorder and can display challenging behaviour, this may show in signs of apprehension and/or aggression. At these times staff are required to support, reassure and follow the behaviour support plan and PRN protocol to ensure both staff and service user are safe. There is significant input from the learning disability team, family and social work to ensure staff are supported with challenges faced. Service user is mobile, however has a wheelchair on hand for times when this is needed out with his home. Service user is nonverbal, however communicates effectively using assistive technology. Behaviours that challenge training will be given to new staff as well as shadowing shifts with experienced staff.

Duties-

The successful Male Support Worker will support in household tasks and maintenance of tenancy, personal care, assistance with medication and provision of preparing and serving nutritious meals and socialising.

Activities enjoyed:

  • M&D’s especially. Service user loves any theme park or carnival and tends to go here on a few occasions each week. Particularly enjoys the Halloween events and Christmas events.

  • Go karting and virtual reality.

  • Being out in his car.

  • Occasionally enjoys going for a sunbed.

  • Enjoys spending time on his computer and finding out if there are any carnivals to attend.
