Job Description Summary

Controls Engineering is a cross-functional engineering discipline focused on an approach, mindset, and process that considers both the business and technical needs of customers. The goal is to provide a quality product that meets user needs through a robust process of design, creation, and optimization of control systems. This includes identification and quantification of system requirements, creation of alternate system design concepts, performance of design trade studies, selection and implementation of the best designs, and verification that the design is properly integrated and executed—from concept to production to operation.
Owns/influences budgets and operating plans. The role is guided by operating policy, works with cross-functional teams, and has autonomy within the operational area or a segment within a larger business unit. The role may have a major impact on a small business unit or Family within a Function or P&L. High levels of evaluative judgment and operational acumen are required to achieve outcomes.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Value Stream leader for Aero Controls.
  • Queretaro Technology Center (QTC) leader all controls engineering (Aero & Heavy Duty).
  • Identify, develop, evaluate, introduce, and manage engineering solutions for product control and control system technology needs.
  • Apply control theory and mathematical modeling to design control systems with desired behaviors, including operability, setting of boundaries, cycle optimization, control logic, control-related software, sensors, hardware and software algorithms, and feedback to control the performance of devices, subsystems, and systems.
  • Senior manager with managers and senior professional direct reports. Attract and retain talent. Manage medium to large teams, developing expertise in your own function, including roles that are experts in their discipline, providing professional or thought leadership.
  • Interpret internal and external business challenges and recommend best practices to improve products, processes, or services. Utilize understanding of industry trends to inform decision-making processes.
  • Lead others to find creative solutions within complex manufacturing processes with technical variety and/or interdependent production cycles. Employ sophisticated operational/product management, manufacturing, or engineering techniques.
  • Influence policy and ensure delivery within the area of responsibility, linking with other parts of the organization.
  • Interaction with adjacent functions is needed to solve issues. Evaluate the quality of information received and question conflicting data for analysis. Use multiple internal and external resources outside of your own function to help arrive at a decision.
  • Lead functional teams or projects with moderate resource requirements, risk, and/or complexity. Present business or technical discipline solutions to leaders. Communicate complex messages and negotiate mainly internally with others to adopt a different point of view. Influence peers to act and may negotiate with external partners, vendors, or customers.
  • Oversee all aspects of Controls Engineering to protect, operate, and control GE Vernova Gas Power Aeroderivative projects for Control Solutions and Services (CSS) and the Aero Engineering organization, including extended scope projects with BOP.
  • Manage the Global Engineering Team and fulfill CSS retrofits for Aeroderivative packages with MarkVIe engines.
  • Oversee the full Aeroderivative Engineering organization for New Units, retrofits, Field support for controls, and Aero NPI development for Aero organization planning.
  • Collaborate with Customers, Project & Product Management, ITR & NPI leaders, Alliance partners, and the Aero Joint Venture for Aerospace Core Control.
  • Deliver systems and designs for core control and Aeroderivative packages aligned with GE Vernova’s purpose.
  • Aero Controls KPI owner for Global Aero MOR.
  • Create and support team strategy on Aero Controls, including Aero Laboratories.
  • Ensure hardware and software acquisitions for global organization equipment, enabling full remote support and state-of-the-art hardware acquisitions for NPI development.
  • Act as a representative in QTC for all Aero disciplines.
  • Provide mentoring to local Aero managers on communication, global Aero networking, risk management, and connecting organizations globally (Mexico, Poland, and Houston).
  • Support GE Vernova Test line representatives (Hungary and Greenville).
  • Ensure full support during Aero String test validations and NPI validation preparations, including test cards ownership for Controls.
  • Provides leadership to the manager of the Controls Engineering - Heavy Duty New Unit Value Stream. Direct global team to define & execute engineering strategy including Hardware and Software design for Mark VIe Gas Turbine & Steam Turbine power train control systems plus broader Plant distributed control systems (DCS). Innovate and lead controls platform and Heavy Duty New Unit new product design.
  • Drive team performance on Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost KPIs.
  • Set and meet capacity vs demand.
  • Improve Culture through building a focused Aero & Heavy Duty New Unit controls team.
  • Lead a team of over 40 global engineers in executing annual projects to bring new power on-line each year globally.
  • Manage, improve, and foster key relationships with the Alliance execution Partner, Multiple internal stakeholders, and several of GE Vernova's largest customers.
  • Execute large scale plant customer witness tests and power plant startups each year, controlling & protecting new Power Plant assets annually.
  • Provides leadership related to teams Operations, Lab operation and EHS and LSR.

Required Characteristics

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Significant experience as People Leader/Technical leader in engineering groups, specifically in Gas Power business.
  • Demonstrated technical skills and experience according to the scope of the team.
  • Demonstrated Project Management skills.
  • Effective team building and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate/interface effectively with all internal organizational levels.
  • Ability to coach/mentor employees.
  • Strong technical knowledge around GE Gas Power technologies and organization.
  • Ability to develop relationships across the organization to build loyalty and commitment.
  • Solid business acumen in the Gas Power Business and customer mindset.
  • Proven experience fostering a collaborative environment.
  • Sense of urgency to resolve customer issues quickly and efficiently.
  • Able to travel regionally or globally as needed.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Advanced English Proficiency.

Desired Characteristics

  • Prior experience with Controls engineering process, Lean Principles, and management methodologies.
  • Experience in design & application of GE power generation controls, electrical & accessory systems.
  • Strong experience in power generation requisition, working with customers, project management, and EPCs.
  • Master’s Degree or Doctorate degree in an Engineering field.
