Senior Underwriter / Underwriting Manager - Renewable Energy

This is a senior underwriting position that encompasses an operational management role to build out and manage a profitable Renewable Energy portfolio within the Onshore Energy line of business.

Individual to utilize their knowledge, underwriting authority and market skills to underwrite, service and manage a commercial book of business. To work closely with Line of Business Head in managing product line profitability including development of business plans. To provide direction to team members in implementation of actions that enhance product line underwriting results and maintain competitive advantage. Responsible for business results of the assigned book of business.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Develops and services an underwriting portfolio that contributes to the Line of Business plan and goals of the Company providing regular reports on business operations and results to the management team.
  • Ensures underwriting and servicing of risks is both timely and accurate adhering to all Arch underwriting / compliance guidelines, service standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Provides regular direction and leadership to underwriting team to achieve specific underwriting line of business and broader corporate strategic objectives.
  • Determines the desirability of accepting or rejecting business risks. Prices exposures in accordance with filed and approved rate levels, discretionary pricing mechanisms, and business unit guidelines.
  • Identifies the need, recommends and evaluates additional risk assessment information including inspection, financial reports and statements. 
  • Coordinates individual risk underwriting actions with other departments to assure the highest level of customer satisfaction while meeting production and business goals.
  • Performs product development and marketing activities including identifying producer relationships within assigned market to optimize best solutions for distribution, identifies and suggests new and modified products, identifies producers for business/marketing programs, and analyse producers and market opportunities.
  • Maintains ongoing liaison with producers to obtain supplemental underwriting information, evaluate risks, decline risks, analyse and interpret coverage, explain underwriting requirements and expectations, and present terms.
  • Regularly interfaces with customers to provide service and to keep abreast of customer issues.
  • Sets ceded reinsurance actions in accordance with Arch Insurance and business unit guidelines.
