Where You Will Work:
The Adult Medical-Surgical Unit at Aurora Medical Center Burlington provides comprehensive care for adult patients with a wide range of medical and surgical conditions in a fast-paced environment focused on patient safety, quality outcomes, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The unit currently has 33 beds—23 on the West side and 10 on the East—with plans to expand to 37 beds next year, and maintains an average daily census of 29 patients with an average length of stay of about three days. Typical nurse-to-patient ratios are 4–5:1 on day shift and 5–6:1 on night shift, while nursing assistants typically manage 6–8 patients each. Required skills include BLS certification, with ACLS supported but not mandatory. This department offers a unique opportunity for learning and growth, making it ideal for new graduates and experienced nurses alike, as it encompasses a variety of specialties including medical, general surgical, orthopedic, oncology, hospice, and telemetry. Known for its strong teamwork and family-like atmosphere within a small community hospital, the unit seeks confident, adaptable RNs who embrace challenges and are eager to develop their skills.
