Position: Group Aquatic Instructor

General Summary
To provide swimming instruction to groups of members and guests
What you will do:
* Demonstrates a commitment to the mission of Galter LifeCenter and demonstrates a service orientation and adheres to all responsibilities and standards of the LifeCenter.
1. Demonstrate professionalism in dealing with LifeCenter members, guests and staff
1.1 Return phone calls promptly (both to clients and GLC staff)
1.2 Be accessible, responsive and follow departmental policy regarding privates swim lesson distribution procedure and programming instructor scheduling
1.3 Keep availability current to expedite accurate lesson distribution and schedule organization
1.4 Schedule extra time with new clients to show them how to utilize the facility and to complete registration/waiver forms
1.5 Show up to lessons early and have necessary equipment prepared in advance
1.6 Give at least 2 weeks' notice if you are planning not to attend a specific class
1.7 Responsible for finding own substitute if not teaching a specific class (violation of this policy results in a free lesson to the client)
1.8 Must commit to at least 8 weeks/10week session to be an assigned group instructor for a program session
2. Create a fun, healthy learning environment
2.1 Design lesson plans which are tailored to the needs and goals of the group
2.2 Motivate clients by giving encouragement and confirming pupils’ accomplishments
2.3 Give skills and drills to practice on their own
2.4 Using interpersonal skills, create a comfortable atmosphere where experimentation and learning combine to make a unique and fun experience
3. Work to continuously improve skills as an instructor
3.1 Continue to expand technical knowledge; ask questions and attend GLC staff training meetings and events
3.2 Consult other instructors about ideas for drills and methods for teaching
3.3 Follow supervisor recommendations for improving lesson quality
Realize that Swim Lessons do not take precedence over other members of the LifeCenter. Galter LifeCenter is a facility shared by many, so be sure to follow departmental procedure about pool and lane usage
What you will need:
It is important that Group Swim Instructors have strong interpersonal communication skills and are able to motivate and give direction. Group Swim Instructors should be friendly, helpful and have the ability to relate well with people of all ages and ethnic backgrounds. A previous swimming background is essential and prior experience in swim instruction is preferred. Group Swim Instructors must be able to demonstrate technical proficiency in the front and back crawl and the breaststroke.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION
* CPR/AED Certified (must be certified within the first 90days of employment if not currently certified.)
* MUST be able to obtain current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification within first 90 days of employment. It is the responsibility of the individual employee, not Galter LifeCenter, to complete and turn in all paperwork necessary to keep WSI certification current.
