BorgWarner is seeking a qualified Metrology person to support the designers, prototype and engineers at our Propulsion Technical Center (PTC) in Auburn Hills, Michigan.

This position is within the Shared Services group working in the Applied Metrology Lab. The position will support BorgWarner designers, prototype and research engineering personnel with dimensional inspections. This is accomplished through understanding and skilled use of measurement tools and practices.

The qualified candidate will also be working with the Business Units on programs and projects.

As part of the Metrology Lab, you will be responsible for communication of results, provide guidance and influence decision-making to support the designers and engineers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate Zeiss Prismo/Contura/O-Inspect Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM)
  • Operate Gleason Gear Analyzer
  • Operate Mitutoyo Roundtest
  • Operate Zeiss SurfCom
  • Knowledge of using hand tools to measure/verify dimensions
  • Understanding of automotive gears, shafts, etc.
  • Consider the impact of his/her actions within the team. Works well with internal and external team members
  • Punctual and reliable
  • Able to work without specific direction, do forward planning and document to show productivity
  • Looks beyond the obvious and doesn't stop at the first answers. Can see hidden problems and excellent at honest analysis
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrate excellent customer interface and communication skills.
  • Safety and Health – Responsible for completing required safety training, reporting and correcting any unsafe practices as appropriate, completing work

What we are looking for

Required:

  • Experience with automotive precision-machined part inspection
  • Experience with prototype inspection and layout of precision components.
  • Experience with automotive precision-machined part measurement equipment (e.g. CMM, contour, surface roughness, hand tools, gear analyzer)
  • Solid working knowledge of GD&T on automotive precision-machined components.
  • Microsoft Office, Microsoft Word, and Excel. CAD experience preferred
  • Formal print reading education
  • Machining experience in a prototype environment helpful
  • Vision/Scanning experience preferred but not necessary

Preferred:

  • +10 years of experience
  • Gear inspection and analysis
