A Brief Overview:
Provides leadership to all aspects of inpatient/outpatient coding.  Works in collaboration with clinical documentation specialists, health care providers, registration, HIM (medical records), quality, compliance, and patient accounts.  Provide high quality, accurate and compliant coding, DRG assignment, and abstracting of medical information for appropriate reimbursement.  Promote and adhere to the system and coding department mission, vision, and values. Facilitate employee engagement, communication, and direction.  Foster professional development for all coding and leadership staff.

What you will do:

  • Develops and maintains relationships with physicians, clinical staff, and other hospital staff. 

  • Acts as a resource for department and other hospital personnel in identifying and resolving issues related to accurate coding and reimbursement.

  • Prepares reports and statistical analyses appropriate to each facility.

  • Develop and monitor ongoing mechanisms to ensure quality coding across the system.

  • Develops short- and long-range KPI goals and objectives for inpatient/outpatient coding.

  • Develops, recommends, and administers policy and procedures of inpatient/outpatient coding. 

  • Review and approve recommendations of changes in established procedures.

  • Interviews, hires, and evaluates the performance of, and when necessary, disciplines and discharges subordinate personnel.  Provides guidance to supervisory personnel in resolving difficult employee relations issues.

  • Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field. Ensures compliance with governmental and third-party payors for inpatient/outpatient coding.

What you will need:

  • Education: Associates Degree Required or Bachelors Degree Health Administration Preferred

  • Certifications: RHIT/RHIA

  • Experience: A minimum of three years of hospital inpatient/outpatient coding experience
