Smith+Nephew’s Commercial Center of Excellence (CoE) Team is a key driver for sustainable and profitable growth across Business Units in the International Region (i.e. the established markets in Europe and Asia/Pacific). The team leads the customer relationships with strategic accounts such as large hospital chains and trusts and group purchasing organizations as well as the development and implementation of pricing frameworks and the centralized management of offers, tenders and contracts.

Role Summary

As Senior Data Scientist within the cross-BU International Commercial CoE, you will play a pivotal role in generating actionable insights from core commercial processes, including Pricing, Contract Management, and Tender Management. You will collaborate closely with business units across the International region (Europe and Asia/Pacific), supporting strategic decision-making and driving commercial excellence. Additionally, you will identify, evaluate, and adapt AI-based technologies to enhance these processes, ensuring the organization remains at the forefront of digital transformation.

What will you be doing?

• Develop and implement advanced analytics and machine learning models to extract insights from commercial data related to pricing, contract management, and tender management.
• Partner with business stakeholders, IT, and market teams to understand requirements and translate them into data-driven solutions.
• Lead the identification, assessment, and integration of AI-based technologies (e.g., predictive analytics, natural language processing, automation) into commercial processes.
• Design and maintain dashboards, reports, and visualizations that provide actionable insights for commercial teams.
• Support the development and continuous improvement of pricing frameworks, quotation efficiency, and contract compliance through data science initiatives.
• Monitor and analyze product and process performance, driving recommendations for optimization.
• Champion data-driven culture and best practices within the CoE and across business units.

What will you need to be successful?

• Proven experience as a Data Scientist or Senior Data Scientist, preferably in a commercial or digital transformation context.
• Strong expertise in statistical analysis, machine learning, and data visualization.
• Deep understanding of commercial processes (pricing, quoting, contracting, tendering) and their data flows.
• Experience with relevant systems (e.g., CPQ, CLM, CRM, ERP such as SAP, Salesforce, PROS) and data integration.
• Demonstrated ability to identify and implement AI-based solutions in business environments.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts to non-technical audiences.
• Experience working in Agile or cross-functional teams is preferred.
• Fluent in English; additional European languages are a plus.
