GEICO is seeking an experienced Senior Manager, Field Engineering Operations with a passion for driving organizational change and cultivating tech partnerships. You will build and manage a team with a deep focus on delivering enterprise-wide processes to operate in a highly performant and efficient way. You will help drive our insurance business transformation as we transition from a traditional IT model to a tech organization with engineering excellence as its mission, while co-creating the culture of psychological safety and continuous improvement.
Position Description
Our Senior Manager is a leader who works with the engineering and operations staff to support the organizational change and delivery of innovative and new engineering solutions, drives partnership with business stakeholders to improve and enhance existing solutions as well as leverage advanced solutions to solve critical operational problems. A Senior Manager will support the strategy and execution of a technical roadmap that will increase the velocity of delivering services and unlock the team’s capabilities. The ideal candidate has technical knowledge to help drive business operational efficiency, capacity benchmarking, improve operational availability and reliability of services, helping guide the Field Engineering team through transformation.
Position Responsibilities
As a Senior Manager, you will:
Work with your Sr Director to identify and solve operational business challenges using an engineering lens, prioritizing automation and self-service solutions, with goal of delivering a superior end user experience
Design and develop communication plans to grow partnership between the Field Engineering organization and business stakeholders to include Executive Sponsors, as well as site and program leaders
Design and execute organizational change strategy, adapting approaches based upon enterprise needs
Develop a business stakeholder engagement strategy to build partnerships and trust, communicate tech changes and delivery, and advocate for business partner needs
Address project dependencies, negotiate and estimate incremental delivery dates for milestones with the business stakeholder community, and support the delivery of projects on time
Identify and raise appropriate project risks, in addition to presenting detailed and implementable solutions or alternatives
Craft and deliver strategic and well-structured persuasive arguments to drive project prioritization for process improvements, enhance cost leadership, and/or end user experience
Report on your team’s progress for project and other key metrics, in addition to presenting detailed and implementable ideas for areas to further improve or influence delivery
Initiate and support performance evaluation of team members
Cultivate a culture that motivates all levels of performers to higher levels of achievement
Build and maintain relationships with your team members to support an environment of trust
Influence those you motivate and coach to be receptive to feedback by cultivating a culture that acknowledges and expects individuals to grow and be accountable as a result of the experience gained (growth mindset)
Identify where technical or analytical skill gaps put future team deliverables at risk and craft a plan to remediate, consistently challenge team members to share knowledge and learn new technologies
Proficiently execute difficult conversations on development and performance
Manage up to leadership as well as give feedback when appropriate
Administer Coaching Plan(s) and Performance Improvement Plan(s)
Compliant negotiation and execution of warning administration and/or involuntary termination
Significantly contribute to the team planning process to include surfacing associate level proposals
Develop the team budget and be accountable for reporting on results achieved at regular intervals
Qualifications
Proven ability to design and implement ongoing enterprise communications strategy
Direct experience working with business stakeholders on an enterprise scale, building partnerships based on trust
Experience
Proven ability to concentrate and demonstrate a capacity for learning technical concepts and adapting to new technologies quickly
Knowledge of cloud computing technologies and concepts (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, etc)
In-depth knowledge of MS Office tools such as PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, and WebEx for effective communication
Proficiency in Project Management and work item management tools such as Azure DevOps and Portfolio
Proficiency in Program Management tools such as MS Project, Visio, and Excel
Constructing, interpreting, and applying metrics to your work and decision making, able to use those metrics to identify correlation between drivers and results, and using that information to drive prioritization and action
Experience
4+ years tech business operations leadership experience
5+ years working in a large-scale, mission-critical environment
4+ years of hands-on work experience supervising personnel in a technical environment, as Manager or team lead
Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or related field, or equivalent experience
Annual Salary
$120,000.00 - $260,000.00The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
