Position Summary
We are seeking a part-time Professional Rater I to join the team on the Adolescent Brain and Cognitive Development (ABCD) Study at Washington University in St. Louis. The ABCD Study is a large-scale study to determine how childhood experiences interact with each other and with a child’s changing biology to affect brain development and social, behavioral, academic, health, and other outcomes.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
*Must be available to work throughout the summer months and all weekends, including weekends around holidays.
- Interviews study participants about topics regarding culture and environment, mental/physical health and substance abuse.
- Works with youth and adult participants representative of the St. Louis community.
- Collects and processes biological samples (hair, saliva, urine, blood) in accordance with study guidelines.
- Performs phlebotomy with training provided after hire.
- Administers/scores behavioral, cognitive and computerized tests.
- Refers patients to resources available in community and social services.
- Performs data collection and entry; maintains accurate documentation across all study databases.
- Monitors and orders supplies necessary for study.
- Delivers study samples to lab for testing.
- Prepares information packets for patients enrolled in study.
- Assists with study-related tasks (e.g. preparing study visit materials, data cleaning).
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree or combination of education and/or experience may substitute for minimum education.

Basic Life Support - American Heart Association, Basic Life Support - American Red Cross

Required Qualifications:
- Basic Life Support certification (Online Basic Life Support certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the Basic Life Support requirements).
- Basic Life Support certification must be obtained within one month of hire date.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with research participants, particularly with adolescents and teenagers.
- Strong attention to detail and adherence to protocol.
- Experience navigating stressful or difficult situations and conversations.
- Strong communication skills amongst team members and with manager.
- Strong customer service skills with a dedication to providing empathetic, participant-oriented experiences.

Salary Range
$17.34 - $25.40 / Hourly
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
