RSM Canada is looking for a Tax Senior Manager to join our expanding tax practice. This role provides an opportunity to join a specialty area within the firm's rapidly expanding international tax practice, focused on our clients in the asset management and real estate sectors.

As a Tax Senior Manager, you will use your expertise to provide inbound and outbound international tax consulting and compliance services to multi-national clients with foreign investors and global investments. You will also help lead our growth, seize new business opportunities, and work closely with RSM Canada and U.S. Partners.

Candidates must be curious, critical thinkers and have the desire to solve complex domestic and cross border issues for our internationally focused clients. As you grow, you will develop the analytical skills necessary for the effective diagnosis, development and implementation of solutions to clients' tax needs. Position responsibilities include:

  • Owning and driving the success of multiple engagements across different jurisdictions in a dynamic work environment
  • Demonstrating a strong desire to learn the Income Tax Act, Regulations, rulings, treaties, and case law and how to apply this understanding to complex cross border tax situations
  • Assist in hiring appropriate resources, building the team, provide mentorship, and training staff
  • Working closely with RSM colleagues across Canada, the U.S., and globally in all lines of business (audit, consulting, tax)
  • Developing an understanding of our client's business, structure, and investments, and become the firm’s Canadian subject matter expert
  • Assist the firm in business development initiatives (e.g. prospects, thought leadership opportunities, etc.) and staying alert to client needs while seeking growth opportunities for the firm
  • Promoting new ideas, business and tax solutions that result in extended services to existing and prospective clients

Basic Qualifications:

  • Dynamic problem solver, solid work ethic and strong project management skills
  • At least seven years of prior relevant tax experience working in the asset management and real estate sector, either in industry or with a public accounting firm
  • CPA designation or JD

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters of Taxation, Law Degree or completed CPA Canada International In-Depth Tax Program
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate complex information and the interpretation of tax laws
  • Strong project management skillset that can be demonstrated in fast moving, complex cross border engagements
  • Solid understanding of inbound and outbound tax issues and planning as it pertains to investment funds
  • Experience with real estate investments and asset management (e.g. public or private REITs, institutions, asset managers, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of or experience with U.S. cross-border real estate tax (e.g. FIRPTA) with an interest in expanding expertise  
  • A promoter of process improvement and is familiar with technology tools (software, generative AI, etc) applicable to tax and the industry
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and passion for driving business to help expand our growing asset management and real estate practice

At RSM, an employee’s pay at any point in their career is intended to reflect their experiences, performance, and skills for their current role. The salary range (or starting rate for interns and associates) for this role represents numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to, education, skills, work experience, certifications, location, etc. As such, pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.

Compensation Range: $110,500 - $188,000

Individuals selected for this role will be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on firm and individual performance.
