Role Description

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join the Calgary based team of investment professionals. The Associate will play a key role in working with Directors and Managing Directors to source, analyze and execute private equity, fund and junior debt investments. The day-to-day responsibilities of the Associate will include:

  • Assist in evaluating direct equity, fund investments, subordinated debt and special opportunities;
  • Contribute to the planning and completion of due diligence;
  • Own financial modelling, including building and sensitizing LBO models;
  • Draft investment committee memos and materials;
  • Assist in legal documentation negotiation and review;
  • Monitor existing portfolio companies and prepare quarterly valuations;
  • Build relationships with Private Equity, Growth Equity and Venture Capital Firms;
  • Collaborate with colleagues across BMO Financial Group, Canadian Commercial Banking and Capital Markets;
  • Monitor investment trends, develop investment theses and pitch on potential investment ideas;
  • Assist in special projects as required.


Qualifications

The following qualifications are a must:

  • 2-4 years of experience within Investment Banking, Private Equity, Venture Capital, Fund Investing, Leveraged Finance, Restructuring, Transaction Advisory or other relevant areas;
  • Deep understanding of capital structure and working knowledge of principal investing;
  • High level of proficiency in Excel and excellent financial modelling skills;
  • Ability to work independently on a number of concurrent transactions with limited direction;
  • Ability to navigate between industries with a deep understanding of the financing needs of private companies from early to mature stage;
  • Experience working in a multiple member deal team context;
  • Proactive attitude, mature, deep sense of ownership and initiative.

The following qualifications will be considered an asset:

  • CFA, CPA, CA, CBV designation or MBA;
  • Experience in conducting due diligence.

$68,000.00 - $126,000.00

The above represents BMO Financial Group’s pay range and type.

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.

BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
