Your New Role
CNN is hiring a Senior Software Developer to join the Design System and Frameworks team. This is a great opportunity for an individual that is passionate about Design System Engineering. CNN is building new digital products, such as direct-to-consumer subscription products, new features and capabilities to support a premium news experience and engage our audiences, and new technologies to help us meet our global audiences where they are. About the Team
As a Senior Software Developer, you will join a cross‑functional team dedicated to building the design system tools and capabilities that power both the editorial workflow and the end‑user experience on CNN.com. This role is ideal for a Design System Engineer who is passionate about systems thinking and enabling creativity at scale. You’ll work closely with technical, design, and product partners to deliver the foundational UI infrastructure that supports storytelling across a diverse range of platforms.
Our team leverages modern technologies to create cohesive, accessible, and performant components while supporting each other through planning, development, reviews, and deployment. In this role, you will play a critical part in shaping our design system by driving feature development, writing high‑quality and maintainable code, contributing to architectural decisions, performing peer reviews, and providing ongoing operational support.
Your Role Accountabilities
Full‑stack development with JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, incorporating semantic code, accessibility standards, responsive design methodologies, and design‑system‑focused engineering practices.
Architect, implement, and maintain design system components, patterns, and UI infrastructure used across multiple applications and frameworks.
Own, implement, develop, and maintain high‑priority features and system-level improvements with thorough testing and documentation.
Collaborate and communicate with product, design, and engineering stakeholders to translate Figma specifications and tokens into scalable, maintainable code.
Work closely with cross‑functional teams in an agile environment, contributing to Scrum, Planning, Retros, and Demos.
Support peers through code reviews, pairing, documentation, and general platform‑minded collaboration.
Participating in the wider CNN Engineering community as a peer reviewer, contributor and mentor for junior team members.
Qualifications & Experience
Deep understanding of engineering best practices, design patterns, code reviews, accessibility, testing and observability.
Strong experience working in modern JavaScript and developing/maintaining reusable UI components and libraries.
Expert-level CSS knowledge, including architecture (BEM), tokens, theming strategies, and cross‑browser behavior.
Proficiency with the command line along with Git, Docker, and AWS.
Experience with unit testing frameworks such as Jest, Jasmine, and Mocha.
Familiarity with AWS tooling including monitoring (CloudWatch), and CI/CD (CodePipeline, CodeBuild).
Solid understanding of software data structures and algorithms, and experience with both client‑ and server‑side technologies.
Demonstrated expertise in at least one modern front‑end framework such as React, Angular, or Vue.
Demonstrated success rapidly learning new technologies, languages, or frameworks.
Familiarity with a wide range of languages, frameworks, platforms, or SDKs.
Excellent communication skills
A passion for improving shared codebases, team processes and culture.
Experience working with or contributing to CMS platforms.
The Nice to Haves
Experience with Figma plugin development, Figma Tokens, or integrating design‑tool workflows into engineering processes.
Hands-on experience implementing or contributing to design systems, component libraries, and pattern libraries across multiple codebases.
Knowledge of database technologies (MongoDB, PostgreSQL, etc).
Python experience.
Experience with Vue.js.
Experience with A|B testing and consumer testing platforms.
Knowledge of Operations, CI/CD, and DevOps, PagerDuty, Kubernetes, Jenkins, CodePipeline, etc.

Base pay is just one component of Warner Bros. Discovery’s total compensation package for employees. Pay Range: $111,300.00 - $144,700.00 salary per year. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards. In addition, Warner Bros.
