This position will be part of the Capella engineering team that builds and operates our advanced DBaaS service across AWS, GCP, and Azure. This will be a highly visible role responsible for driving the architecture and leading the implementation of systems related to reliability, scalability, performance optimization, and multi-cloud management. The candidate will demonstrate and implement cloud-native development best practices, ensuring our architecture is robust and scalable. In Capella, we are the custodians of our customers' data, and ensuring cloud infrastructure stability, performance, and reliability is paramount in everything we do. This position will play a critical role in building an advanced DBaaS platform that securely powers some of the most demanding applications of our customers. They will collaborate closely with stakeholders across the organization, including engineering, product management, and operations.
Architectural Leadership: Own and drive the architecture of our DBaaS platform, ensuring it meets defined performance, scalability, and security SLOs. Lead technical planning and execute a roadmap that positions Capella at the forefront of transactional, real-time analytics, and AI.
Cross-Team Collaboration: Work with Engineering, Product Management, Support, SRE, and Field Engineering to align priorities and architecture, ensuring features integrate with Capella’s long-term goals. Understand user needs, address pain points, and drive improvements in performance, scalability, and reliability.
Technical Oversight: Lead the cloud engineering team by collaborating on design, conducting code reviews, and ensuring that features are efficient, secure, and high quality.
Operational Support & Monitoring: Partner with the SRE team to develop effective monitoring solutions, ensuring the right telemetry is in place to meet SLOs and improve efficiency. Monitor alerts and dashboards to proactively identify potential issues.
Customer Engagement & Support: Serve as the primary technical point of contact for Capella during customer engagements, resolving technical challenges and collaborating with field engineering and support teams to address complex issues.
Mentorship & Team Development: Foster continuous learning and skill development by mentoring junior engineers. Partner with engineering managers to recruit top talent, strengthening the cloud engineering team.
10+ years of experience in building highly available, high-performance distributed systems on cloud platforms, with at least 5 years focused on designing and architecting solutions to meet performance, scalability, and security SLOs.
5+ years of experience managing and optimizing Linux systems in production environments on cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure, with expertise in tuning for cloud-specific networking, storage, and compute.
Proficiency with at least two major cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure), including deep knowledge of orchestration, networking, security, and cloud-native development tools.
3+ years of hands-on development experience in Golang, or similar languages, with a preference for Golang expertise.
Experience in customer-facing technical roles, acting as a technical point of contact to resolve complex issues.
Proven experience in technical planning and executing roadmaps to advance cloud platform capabilities.
Extensive experience in managing cloud infrastructure, ensuring stability, and implementing security protocols.
