Operational Technology (OT) refers to the set of digital assets which are at the very heart of Anglian Waters industrial operations. Operational technology systems are deployed throughout our geographical region to enable remote monitoring and control of water collection, treatment and distribution processes. The demand for Operational Technology solutions within the Water sector is soaring due to the opportunities associated with IT / OT integration and Industry 4.0 applications. It is recognised that OT is key in enabling us to achieve our performance commitments (including reduction in leakage and pollutions) and providing an excellent service to our customers.    

Anglian Water have an OT Services Framework in place to help deliver our OT Capital Maintenance Programme across our Water and Water Recycling estate. This framework covers both OT telemetry and automation servicesThe role of the OT Resource Planner is to effectively plan and optimise the work and resources across the OT Framework. This will include developing the forecasting/ planning model and tools based on AMP8 predictions and historic framework performance to forecast demand and resource requirements to achieve/ outperform budget spend and deliver the required outputs.  

The role will undertake resource planning for DDaT resources across the framework, including but not limited to: Project Management, Configuration, Field Engineering, Suppliers and Commercial Teams; as such, understanding and optimising the capacity and demand of resources across the framework will be a key objective as well as advising the Framework Manager of any resource deficits or needs.  

What will you be doing? 

  • Work with OT stakeholders to develop the initial plan for large, planned work packages and a resourcing model that aligns with the objectives of the OT framework and optimises all existing resources across the framework. 

  • Produce a resourcing plan that balances work across the end-to-end process from work package initiation to project commissioning. 

  • Develop the resource and planning management capability and process for optimising capacity and demand on a daily basis, including but not limited to adjusting operational plans to take account of reactive demands and forecast business changes, changing internal and external resource capacity and ongoing delivery performance.   

  • Provide a real-time resource forecast for each of the resourcing areas across the framework including Project Management, Configuration, Field Engineering, Suppliers and Commercial Teams.  

  • Responsibility for timely and accurate reporting on framework resource and capability plans; Provide or source information, including analytical, statistical, forecasting and modelling capability to meet the workforce planning needs. 

  • Managing and auditing control processes; ensuring consistency of data and reporting; Ensure data/reporting systems are fit-for-purpose, recording data that is required for reporting and decision-making purposes, in an accessible and understandable format and method; introduce improvements to formats or spreadsheets.

What does it take to be successful?  

  • Previous experience of resource management function or similar 

  • Advanced modelling experience (capacity plans, demand planning, forecasting)  

  • Advanced Excel user with SQL abilities and ideally PowerBI familiarity 

  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret and present data in an engaging & meaningful manner to various stakeholders. 

  • Experience of leading demand driven resource and capability management activities on complex projects/programmes (or non-project environment) 

  • Excellent collaboration and partnering skills.  

  • Stakeholder engagement and management experience 

  • Ability to form and maintain impact focused professional relationships across teams, internal and external stakeholders. 

  • Logic driven problem solving skills and the ability to manage complexity and ambiguity. Working on own initiative to pre-empt risks and exercise sound judgement to seek and identify solutions.
