Join the group at eBay passionate about Customer Support Technology to compose, build, and evolve the intelligent platform systems that power our global customer support ecosystem. As a Software Engineer 3, you will lead initiatives across DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), release engineering, integration of quality engineering automation to improve platform reliability, deployment safety, engineering efficiency, and operational scalability.

This is a hands-on engineering role focused on building scalable automation frameworks, CI/CD platforms, intelligent operational tooling, observability systems, and automated QE integration testing solutions. You will work across teams to drive operational excellence, reduce manual effort, improve release quality, and enable reliable service operations at scale.

What You’ll Do

  • Design, build, and enhance scalable CI/CD, build, deployment, and release engineering systems

  • Build and sustain QE integration automation test systems supporting release quality and platform reliability

  • Build automated validation frameworks incorporated within CI/CD pipelines for functional, integration, regression, and reliability testing

  • Develop and maintain AI/AE-powered operational automation systems to improve engineering productivity and operational efficiency

  • Build intelligent automation solutions for monitoring, alerting, diagnostics, remediation, and release validation

  • Improve deployment safety through automated quality gates, release verification, and observability-driven automation

  • Lead troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and resolution of complex production incidents

  • Develop self-service platform tooling and automation frameworks for engineering teams

  • Improve platform health through proactive monitoring, telemetry, SLOs, SLIs, and operational metrics

  • Collaborate with QE, platform, infrastructure, and application engineering teams to improve release confidence and system resiliency

  • Contribute to architectural decisions for cloud-native platform systems and operational tooling

  • Mentor junior engineers and help promote technical and functional excellence across teams

  • Participate in on-call rotations and incident response leadership as needed

Must-Have Qualifications

  • BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience)

  • 4–7 years of experience in software engineering, DevOps, SRE, platform engineering, or related areas

  • Strong programming and scripting skills in Java, Python, Go, or similar languages

  • Strong experience with:

    • CI/CD systems and release automation

    • Distributed systems and cloud-native architectures

    • Production operations and reliability engineering

  • Experience building automation frameworks and operational tooling

  • Experience developing or maintaining automated testing frameworks and QE integration systems

  • Strong understanding of integration testing, regression automation, and release validation strategies

  • Experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD and deployment workflows

  • Strong understanding of observability concepts including metrics, logging, tracing, and alerting

  • Experience debugging complex distributed production environments

Additionally

  • Experience building backend services and APIs supporting deployment, automation, or operational systems

  • Ability to design scalable automation solutions with minimal operational overhead

  • Experience collaborating across engineering organizations to improve developer productivity and operational efficiency

  • Understanding of reliability concepts such as SLOs, SLIs, error budgets, incident response, and operational excellence

  • Ability to balance system reliability, release velocity, and quality engineering objectives

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and container orchestration technologies

  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code and configuration management tools

  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure

  • Experience with AI-assisted developer tooling, intelligent automation systems, or agentic workflow platforms

  • Familiarity with observability tools including Splunk, Grafana, Prometheus, and OpenTelemetry

  • Experience with QE automation frameworks and continuous testing platforms

  • Exposure to AIOps, predictive monitoring, or self-healing infrastructure systems

  • Experience driving platform modernization and engineering productivity initiatives

Team & Impact

You’ll be part of eBay’s Customer Support Technology team responsible for enabling reliable, scalable, and intelligent service operations across customer support platforms. Your work will directly improve platform resiliency, release velocity, operational automation, quality engineering integration, and developer productivity through advanced DevOps, SRE, AI-driven engineering systems, and QE automation frameworks.
