Production Operator

Huntsman is seeking a Production Operator supporting the Advanced Materials division located in Los Angeles, California. This position will report to the Assistant Operations Manager .

Job Scope

Huntsman is currently recruiting for a Production Operator for our chemical manufacturing site in Los Angeles, CA. As a flexible and motivated team member, you will operate plant equipment and chemical processes safely and efficiently to achieve production output.

The primary responsibility is gaining knowledge and in-depth understanding of the production process and its supporting operations and applying that knowledge to achieve efficient production outcomes. The ideal candidate shall be responsible for all unit functions, including housekeeping, necessary to maintain a safe and efficient operation.

In summary, as the Production Operator, you will:

  • Safely handle chemicals and chemical processing equipment (vessels, mixers, reactors, dischargers, etc.) for the manufacture of epoxy and polyurethane-type formulations for aerospace, electronics, tooling, etc.
  • Work with processes that incorporate heating, cooling, vacuum, pressure, nitrogen purging, and exothermic reactions
  • Follow instructions precisely as written (in English) as well as verbally and adhere to all safety precautions and PPE (personal protective equipment) requirements
  • Work shift schedules as required
  • Maintain good housekeeping standards and motivation for high quality
  • Apply basic mathematics and science/engineering knowledge
  • Operate forklifts and handle drums as needed
  • Perform filling of containers and cleaning of equipment and tools
  • Work independently and as part of a team, following instructions and completing tasks as assigned by Supervisor/Lead Operator
  • Maintain accuracy and precision in all tasks
  • Assist employees in accomplishing Huntsman company goals
  • Participate in and complete company-required training programs
  • Participate in Environmental, Health, and Safety initiatives as set forth by the company

Qualifications

You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.

The candidate must have an unrestricted right to work for Huntsman in the United States.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent, such as GED required
  • 3 or more years of related experience in a manufacturing facility, preferably a chemical formulation plant
  • You must be approved/cleared by State and Federal authorities as applicable to work with controlled chemicals used at the site
  • You must be willing and able to work any of the three shifts (1st, 2nd, or 3rd) based on business needs.
    • 1st Shift Hours – 6:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
    • 2nd Shift Hours from 2:00 p.m. – 10:30 p.m.
    • 3rd Shift Hours from 10:00 p.m. - 6:30 a.m.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Follow instructions and perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor
  • Excellent communication skills as the position interfaces with various departments and contractors
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and set priorities
  • Proven understanding of day-to-day business activities, reporting, and operations
  • Computer literacy
  • Ability to work well with others in a team environment
  • Ability to communicate clearly with line supervisors and management

Starting rate for Production Operator is $35.00/hr. plus $2.00/hr. shift differential for hours worked from 2:00pm-6:00am.

  • The compensation range reflects the Company’s reasonable expectation at the time of posting. We consider a number of business-related factors when making individual compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training.
  • Step progression available based on qualification - minimum of 12 months prior to associate qualifying.
