Central Business ServicesJob Duties Outlined:
Financial Planning, Analysis and Consultation
Leads the budgeting and forecasting process, including the annual budget load, monthly fund account reviews, and analysis of state and non-state fund accounts.
Monitors fiscal performance, updates financial forecasts, and provides monthly financial reports for assigned business units to ensure compliance and effective internal controls. Interact with departments, business units, institutional finance, and other centers of expertise to develop financial policies and procedures.
Provides trend and variance analysis reporting and explanations of budget vs. actual results for assigned units
Guides the operation of the accounting and financial functions for assigned fund areas, in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, federal and state regulatory requirements, and University policies.
Compiles, interprets, and communicates financial information to appropriate individuals, including business unit leadership and internal and external stakeholders.
Partners with business and academic units to develop and submit regulatory and institutional reports (e.g., recharge service center forms, LCME Accreditation reports, NSF Survey reports, etc.)
Provides support and advice to the Director of Finance and Business Operations on financial and business management.
Project Financial Management
Oversees all financial processes related to project setup, funding, tracking, and reporting.
Develops procedural costs and profitability analysis for billable services, conducts annual price and rate analysis review, and provides recommendations on modifications to fee scales as needed.
Performs funding review and approval of projects in compliance with institutional and Kansas Board of Regents Facilities Policies.
Reports on billing for facility management fees on construction projects, internal construction work to other departments, and services to auxiliary and external departments.
Manages the project closure process to ensure that all accounts payable and billing issues are resolved, and projects are closed in the project management system.
Oversees all billing and accounts receivable processes for centrally managed business units (mailroom billing, maintenance services, revenue deposits, project services, etc.)
Management / Supervision
Supervises assigned team member(s) within Central Business Services.
Fosters growth and talent retention for administrative staff through functional alignment, defined career paths, and career development opportunities.
Other duties as assigned, which may include:
Cross training in tasks of other positions in the department for back-up and work overflow purposes.
Serve/lead on departmental and/or KUMC committees as assigned
Serve as backup to the Director of Finance and Business Operations.
Required Qualifications
Education: BBA/BA/BS in Finance, Economics, or Business (or related field).
Work Experience:
Experience using Workday (HR and Finance) and Adaptive Planning or similar ERP systems, including utilizing data from systems to make informed decisions.
Previous experience managing multiple complex assignments/projects with a high degree of organization and timely completion.
A work history of collaboration and fostering change with multiple stakeholders while maintaining effective working relationships.
5 years of experience in finance or business services.
2 years of experience directly or indirectly supervising professional staff members.
Strong communication skills as evidence by application materials.
Computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite, with a high proficiency in Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
Education
MBA or other related Master’s degree
CPA or CIA designation
Work Experience
Experience in higher education.
Experience with QlikView or other BI tools.
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles for government, for-profit or non-profit institutions.
Familiarity with KUMC and/or Kansas State processes and systems.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals and groups from a variety of identities (both personal and social identities), cultures, backgrounds, ideologies with a commitment towards inclusion and belonging.

Compensation Statement:
The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
