Job Description Summary
Responsible for evaluation and treatment of patients with Cardiac or Pulmonary disorders. Obtains, analyzes and correlates patient clinical data and makes recommendations and / or implements care plan. Manages complex patient / ventilator systems within protocol guidelines. Anticipates crises and complications and performs or recommends appropriate interventions. Works independently within departmental guidelines.

Essential Functions:
Develops, implements, and modifies respiratory care plans based on correlation of diagnostic testing results, assessment, and progress toward therapeutic goal achievement in the most cost-effective manner possible.
Manages ventilator / patient systems, assessing adequacy of ventilation, oxygenation, weaning ability and other physiologic parameters as needed.
Accurately documents and communicates patient condition and goal achievement to RT charge staff, nursing and physician staff.
Acts as educator / preceptor at unit level and as hospital wide clinical resource for patients and other patient care areas.
Has completed cross training in advanced and alternate areas of departmental responsibility to promote efficient use of staffing resources (e.g. ICU, NICU, East Campus, PFT, etc.).
Attends at least 50% of department meetings held throughout the calendar year.
Performs all respiratory care therapeutic modalities and diagnostic testing (e.g. arterial blood gases, bedside pulmonary function testing).
