MSIG North America continues to grow! 

Summary: Acts under the direction and authority of the Property & Marine Claims Manager to conduct timely and thorough investigations on complex Property claims including litigation and coverage issues in accordance with MSMM Claim Handling Guidelines and as prescribed by regulatory requirements and Fair Claims Practices Acts. Individual will also provide technical oversight and perform claim audits on existing and new Program business written within the MSIG NA family.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Investigates, researches and analyzes moderate to highly complex property claims and lawsuits, including coverage issues and legal issues affecting the claims. This will include claims under Quota Share and Excess and Surplus policies as well as Assumed Reinsurance contracts. 

  • Establishes appropriate case reserves, completes settlements and case resolutions within established reserve and settlement authorities. Recommends reserve and settlement values on assigned cases in excess of established reserve and settlement authority.

  • Manage, control and negotiate timely and equitable claim payments and settlements in accordance with jurisdictional and fair claim practices and company policy and procedures.

  • Ensures appropriate electronic filing of file reports and system documentation as required by company claim manuals and procedures.

  • Attends pre-trials, trials, settlement conferences and mediations on assigned cases as required.

  • Assigns the defense of lawsuits to defense counsel; directs and monitors quality and performance of defense counsel.  Maintains compliance with all requirements of the company’s Litigation Management Program. Review and adjusts, where appropriate, fee bills and legal expenses for accuracy and reasonableness. 

  • Maintains regular reporting of case status and developments to senior management and provides technical direction to claims staff and other appropriate parties as necessary.

  • Conducts training with MSMM staff members on claims stemming from Property, Excess Property, Inland Marine and Crime policies.

  • Visits to accounts to conduct claim reviews during the year as needed. Participates and/or manages special projects and other duties as may be assigned.

Education and/or Experience                                                   

Bachelor's degree preferred. 10+ years experience handling Property and Marine claims is required.  Supervisory skills are a plus.

Computer Skills                                               

Must have strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel (the ability to create and format spreadsheets, sort, and create basic formulas). Must also have the ability to learn and implement other software.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

AIC, SCLA and/or CPCU helpful but not required.

Other Skills and Abilities                                             

Ability to travel on all forms of transportation.
