Job Description

As an Engineering Manager in the Fuzing & Warheads Development Group, you will be responsible for conceptual design and modeling/simulation functions and will also act as a technical lead, technical contributor, or technical consultant on various projects. You will be responsible for growing and managing a design team, processes, and tools as well as directing and/or working with other engineers, technicians, functional managers, program managers and administrative personnel to accomplish your objectives.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Lead a team that performs conceptual design, performance analysis, and system integration of assemblies for defense-related products
  • Ensure the right people, processes, and tools are in place to meet the business needs
  • Oversee the supervision of day-to-day engineering activity and work products, expense management, workload management, and performance management proces
  • Identify, manage and grow the critical skills development process for the design team
  • Identify and/or lead continuous improvement activities within the department
  • Function as a key contributor on DoD development programs, managing assigned responsibilities and directing the work of other supervisors, engineers, technicians and administrative personnel to accomplish program goals
  • Manage cost and schedule for assigned projects
  • Prepare, review, and approve cost estimates and written or oral technical proposals

Basic Qualifications

  • BS degree in Engineering is required, preferably Mechanical or Aerospace
  • Minimum of 5 years of directly related engineering experience, or 3 years with an MS degree
  • Experience with performing work on High Performance Computers
  • Working knowledge with Linux operating system
  • Strong mechanical skills and exposure to a manufacturing environment
  • Working knowledge of computer aided design (CAD) software, preferably CREO
  • Working knowledge of lagrangian and eulerian modeling and simulation methods, preferably CTH or ALE3D
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project)
  • Familiarity with Root Cause Analysis, Fault Trees and Design of Experiments
  • Possess an understanding of finite element analysis codes for structural analysis of designs
  • Strong leadership, influence, and project management skills
  • Ability to network and negotiate at all levels within an organization to accomplish objectives
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to travel occasionally (<25%) to meet with various customers, in both government and industry, and to interface with vendors
  • Ability to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance which requires US Citizenship as a prerequisite

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior project, program, or people leadership experience
  • Strong mechanical skills and exposure to Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Knowledge of weaponeering or explosives engineering
  • Prior experience working with DoD and/or DoE customers

Salary Range: $109,800.00 - $164,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
