The Supply Chain Investigator is responsible for ensuring that supply chain related operations across stores and merchandise distribution channels comply with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. This role focuses on identifying, investigating, and mitigating risks related to inventory loss, fraud, process breakdowns, and operational inefficiencies throughout the Family Dollar merchandise supply chain network.

Monitor and evaluate supply chain performance across key areas including inventory control, transportation, warehouse operations, store receiving processes, loss prevention, and compliance. Assist in providing oversight of third-party guard services at assigned distribution centers.

Provide ongoing training and development for Store Managers, Distribution Center personnel, and Asset Protection Personnel on supply chain integrity, compliance, and investigative procedures.

This position reports to the Director of Merchandise Shrink and Supply Chain and partners closely with Supply Chain Regional Asset Protection Managers, Field Managers, Distribution Leaders, Major Crimes Managers, and Corporate Business Teams.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Investigate inventory discrepancies, cargo theft, vendor fraud, internal theft, and process failures using data analysis, surveillance tools, surveillance techniques, and field investigations.
  • Conduct supply chain audits as directed across stores, distribution centers, and transportation processes; evaluate performance and identify risks related to shrink, fraud, and operational non-compliance
  • Analyze exception reports (e.g., inventory variances, shipment discrepancies, store surveys) and partner with internal departments (e.g. DC Operations, Transportation, Logistics, Inventory Control) to identify trends and root causes
  • Advise Store Managers and Supply Chain leaders on improving operational processes to reduce loss, increase accuracy, and enhance efficiency
  • Develop and deliver training programs focused on inventory management, asset protection, fraud awareness, supply chain compliance, and safety protocols
  • Conduct on-site, vehicle, and remote surveillance using available tools (e.g., CCTV, shipment tracking systems, audit reports) to identify potential risks and integrity issues
  • Perform investigative interviews and “honesty conversations” with employees related to supply chain incidents, theft, or compliance concerns
  • Ensure that supply chain security equipment and systems (e.g., CCTV, alarms, tracking tools, access controls) are functioning properly and being used effectively
  • Collaborate with corporate partners to support initiatives aimed at reducing shrink and improving supply chain visibility (e.g., high-risk shipment monitoring, targeted shrink reduction programs)
  • Prepare detailed investigative reports and present findings to leadership, including recommendations for corrective actions
  • Report suspected fraudulent or criminal activity to appropriate internal and external partners
  • Support special projects related to supply chain risk mitigation, operational improvements, and compliance initiatives
  • Ensure consistent execution of company policies and procedures across all supply chain operations
  • Perform additional duties and projects as assigned

Position Requirements

Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree in Criminal Justice, Supply Chain Management, Business, or related field a plus.  Ability to interpret and communicate operational procedures and compliance standards.

Experience:
0-2 years of experience in retail, supply chain, logistics, safety, or asset protection required. Investigative experience related to inventory control, fraud detection, or supply chain operations preferred. Experience conducting audits, leading training sessions, and conducting surveillance is a plus.

Requirements:

  • Strong analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to interpret data and identify trends across multiple systems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point)
  • Strong communication and interviewing skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently
  • Willingness to travel overnight as needed up to 50% of the time.  
  • Valid Driver’s License required

Availability:
Ability to work a flexible, full-time schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays as business needs require.
