Position Summary:

Kemper is seeking a Total Loss Claims Adjuster to join the team in our Total Loss Team. In this position you will investigate and resolve first and third party auto physical damage claims by attempting immediate contact to confirm/review coverage. Investigate damages and maintain control of loss and of use expenses. The Total Loss Claims Adjuster will be responsible for preparation of necessary correspondence to settle total loss claims with insureds, claimants, and their legal representatives and will issue indemnity and expense payments with key initiative on accuracy of settlements. This includes reviewing all options, conditioning and prior to confirming we have accurate actual cash value.  

Position Responsibilities:

  • Reviews loss notices to determine the exposure and assures that those exposures have been properly established via the loss system. Exposures are to be recognized and entered within company guidelines for Best Practices.
  • Ensures that contacts are made with insureds and claimants on the same day, or within 24 hours, that loss assignment is received.
  • Communications and Customer Service: Exhibit effective verbal and written communication; deliver clear, timely messages that are easily understood.
  • Develop and implement negotiation strategies when communicating settlement related information to insureds, claimants, attorneys, body shop personnel, lien holders, tow companies and other parties.
  • Handles all claims within the guidelines of the States’ Fair Claims Practices Acts and other Regulations.
  • Will act as specialist in knowledge of Total Loss, Salvage and Title laws of the various states to facilitate legal transfer of title and claim resolution.

Position Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Knowledge of legal and auto repair/construction terminology helpful.
  • Total loss claims handling experience, including making coverage decisions, customer contact, and rental managements experience is required.
  • Interpersonal skills must be adequate to effectively coordinate a prompt, fair, and equitable resolution of all assigned claims.
  • The ability to work in a fast paced, high-volume environment.
  • Bilingual in Spanish, preferred but not required.
