About the Unit

7 Center is one of the Women's and Infant Services units at Butterworth. We specialize in taking care of higher acuity postpartum patients, infants, and also gynecological/surgical women. Post Delivery complications can be high blood, diabetes management, complicated medical history, Covid-19 and more.  Care for newborns that have issues with feeding, blood sugar management, high bilirubin levels, infant antibiotics if needed.

Scope of work

Couplet care, where we care for mom and baby together.

The Nurse Tech acts as a team member in the delivery of quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Provider. Performs basic skills per department guidelines and communicates observations to members of the health care team.

As a nurse tech on the unit, you will provide patient care which can include taking vital signs, transportation, collaborating with the RN, blood sugar checks, ADLs and more.

Nurse techs also get the unique experience of working in the nursery where they care for newborns. Nurse techs will learn to take baby vitals, assist with circumcisions, do different required testing for newborns which includes hearing screen and car seat testing, performing blood sugars and some lab collections.

Orientation

This role will begin with Department Orientation which includes weekday classroom trainings with our Educators during the first week of employment, and more hands on orientation shifts on the nursing floor in September and October. Regular part time schedule will require being available for variable weeknights and rotating weekends.

Qualifications

  • Required High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) required within 90 days
  • 1 year of prior relevant bedside patient care experience is preferred
