Overview

• Quality Engineering at Mastercard is a dedicated team of software quality engineers driving quality transformation and enabling best-in-class DevTestOps practices across Mastercard’s technology organization.
• This role involves performing data and code analysis, reviewing implementations, and validating applications across multiple platforms, including Mainframe environments, with hands-on experience testing applications built on COBOL, JCL, DB2, VSAM, and File-Aid.
• Unlike traditional QA or testing roles, the Quality Engineering position at Mastercard requires strong software development knowledge and hands-on experience. The role partners closely with developers and technical leads to design test scenarios, build test infrastructure, perform performance and data analysis, conduct code reviews, and implement automation to improve overall development quality.

Role

• Understand testing methodologies, Mastercard infrastructure, application logic, system interfaces, data flows, and test artifacts.
• Analyze and interpret user stories to identify testing requirements across multiple testing levels, including unit, functional, integration, and regression testing.
• Drive best practices in Quality Engineering, including functional and exploratory testing.
• Promote the adoption of development services such as development collaboration, continuous integration, and continuous delivery.
• Support acceptance test automation, quality gating reviews for software promotion, and CI/CD pipeline integration.

Responsibilities

• Partner closely with software engineers to build quality into the development lifecycle by ensuring proper test coverage, code coverage, configuration quality, monitoring, and application support across all environments.
• Develop and implement QA standards, processes, tools, and methodologies; collaborate with cross-functional teams to define testing requirements.
• Participate in requirement reviews and all testing activities while monitoring defect resolution and maintaining documentation.
• Identify and implement complex automation solutions; replicate and troubleshoot production issues in lower environments.
• Define and implement best practices for end-to-end application testing.
• Assist in vendor assessments and evaluate software development and testing tools.
• Manage medium-sized initiatives as an individual contributor with advanced knowledge within the discipline, leading segments of larger initiatives and coordinating day-to-day work activities.
• Translate complex system requirements and specifications into effective test strategies and testing methods.
• Act as a primary reviewer for project-level reviews, walkthroughs, and inspections.
• Lead evaluation and adoption of testing tools to expand automation capabilities.

All About You

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience (Required).
• 5+ years of experience in Quality Engineering, Software Testing, or a related field.
• Experience testing across multiple platforms, including Mainframe environments.
• Hands-on experience testing applications running in Mainframe technologies such as COBOL, JCL, DB2, VSAM, and File-Aid (Required).
• Ability to develop acceptance and integration test automation scripts and integrate them with CI/CD pipelines such as Jenkins or XLR, along with code coverage tools such as Sonar or Clover to ensure high code and conditional coverage (Required).
• Experience working in Agile development environments (Required).
• Experience or familiarity with mainframe modernization or migration to cloud/microservices architectures (Preferred).
• Experience collaborating with developers to ensure systems are designed for reliability, performance, and testability (Preferred).
• Domain knowledge in Core Payments, particularly in transaction processing systems (Preferred).

In line with Mastercard’s total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role. The base salary offered may vary depending on multiple factors, including but not limited to location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay Ranges

O'Fallon, Missouri: $140,000 - $231,000 USD
