You’ll gain valuable hands-on experience and play a key role in fostering a positive, engaged team culture at multiple locations, all while developing the skills to advance within the harbour towage sector.
What You Will Do
Reporting to the Port Manager based in Fremantle, your key responsibilities will include:
Acting as the first point of contact between local management and crew, providing leadership and support to drive team engagement.
Assisting with crew roster management in alignment with enterprise agreements and port operating procedures.
Liaising with relevant port authorities and regional statutory bodies to ensure compliance and operational excellence.
Leading investigations into incidents and near misses in collaboration with the Health & Safety team, ensuring a safe work environment.
Supporting the Technical Superintendent in managing vessel maintenance and repairs, including the preparation of specifications, reports, and coordination of supplies and spare parts.
Participating in internal and external audits of vessels and offices, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and cultural change.
Assisting the Port Manager with budgeting, forecasting, and the review and optimisation of operational costs.
What You Will Need To Succeed
To thrive in this role, you should demonstrate:
Previous experience in the maritime industry (offshore, fishing, or shipbuilding), preferably in an operational capacity
Relevant certificates in business or marine operations will be highly regarded and can significantly enhance your application.
A customer-oriented mindset, with strong leadership abilities to coach, motivate, and drive performance.
Excellent analytical and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to resolve complex issues and achieve positive results.
Proven ability to build strong relationships and effectively manage multiple stakeholders, with a focus on team collaboration and engagement.
Outstanding organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines, and perform well under pressure.
Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and develop relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
Clear, calm, and respectful communication skills, promoting positive and productive interactions at all levels.
