Job Title: Patient Care Assistant

Salary: £24,045 per annum

Location: St. Anne's Vets

Job Type: Permanent, full-time

Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday. 8 hour shifts, either 8am-5pm or 10.30am-7.30pm.

St. Anne's Vets are looking for an enthusiastic Patient Care Assistant (PCA) to join our fantastic team.

Role and responsibilities
PCAs work in all areas of practice, and it will be necessary to accept instruction from a variety of people. You will be responsible for preparing theatre for surgeries, cleaning and maintaining the quality of our instruments, assist with patient care and husbandry, running in-house lab tests, packaging biological samples and assisting with the smooth running of the practice, and much more.

We are a busy practice with ten vets and 15 nurses. The nature of our work can be fast-paced, requiring good prioritisation, a strong initiative and good organisational skills. You will join a team of 2 other Patient Care Assistants. We are a training practice for Student Veterinary Nurses and therefore aim to produce an environment which allows all members of the team to learn from each other.

Duties will also include, but are not limited to:

  • Cleaning, disinfection and preparation of patient accommodation.
  • Actively maintain the hospital and follow infection control procedures. This will include sterilising and deep cleaning among other duties.
  • Assist with reception and client care, including answering the telephone, dealing with enquiries, booking procedures and taking payments.
  • Assist Veterinary Surgeons, Veterinary Nurses, and support staff where and when required.
  • Work and communicate effectively with colleagues and clients. Demonstrate the ability to be reliable, adaptable, understanding and empathetic.

The ideal candidate will be familiar with working within the veterinary industry and will have previous animal handling experience. However, practical training will be given and the candidate will be expected to actively part-take in structured Patient Care Assistant training programme. An individual mentor will be assigned to support this process.
