Job Description:

The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is looking for an Onboarding Specialist to join our Human Resources team!

As part of the Talent Acquisition team, you will work directly with newly hired staff to complete required background check items and ensuring a seamless new hire experience. Top candidates will be comfortable working under pressure, have an eye for detail, and enjoy connecting with customers.

Wage: $17.608 - $27.577/ hour. Pay rate may commensurate with education and/or experience within fiscal constraints, if approved. 

Examples of Work

The HR Onboarding Specialist will:  

  • Possess a professional demeanor, excellent communication skills, detail oriented, and strong computer skills.  
  • Support the Talent Acquisition team, by performing onboarding activities such as conducting background checks, scheduling physicals, drug screens, and fingerprints, tracking progress, reviewing completed background checks for accuracy, and drafting new hire communication.  
  • Be responsible for processing human resources transactions and documents for the maintenance of hiring and personnel records, files and reports and will effectively communicate and interact with candidates and employees at all levels in the organization.
  • Assist in creating forms and templates to facilitate the onboarding process.

Requirements/Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: One year of coursework or training in personnel management, business administration, public administration or office/administrative or two years of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience with working computerized systems used to collect, review and process information, and creating / reviewing reports to assure accurate processing of detailed information. Experience with Human Resource Information Systems on Onboarding employees is a plus. Basic Microsoft Office knowledge including Word and Excel.

  • Ability to "think out of the box" and identify process improvement opportunities. 
  • Ability to multi-task, communicate with customers, co-workers, and business contacts in a courteous, professional and timely manner. 
  • Ability to work independently and with confidential information; learn applicable labor contracts, rules/regulations, DHHS policies and procedures to provide information to employees, supervisors and the general public.  
  • Must be reliable, responsible and dependable to job obligations with a willingness to take on responsibilities and challenges.
