Experience Level(s):
Internship

Field(s):
Software Engineering

Introduction

The Source Laser Beam Control team develops the software that measures and controls the high‑power laser used in ASML’s EUV systems. This software ensures accurate laser steering and supports the stability and efficiency of EUV light generation. As a Computer Science intern, you will help improve the long‑term reliability of the team’s model‑driven development approach. You will work in a collaborative environment where specialists share knowledge and solve challenges together. This Computer Science internship gives you a chance to contribute directly to our next‑generation EUV technology.

Your assignment

You will strengthen the structure and maintainability of software used to control laser beam actuators. You will build on an existing model and a model‑based code generator, and you will improve how these components are organized and extended. Your work will support future scalability while ensuring clear separation of concerns in both the model and the generator. Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Analyze the current software architecture and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Review the existing domain model and generator structure.
  • Extend the peripheral meta‑model to support automated code generation.
  • Propose architectural improvements based on Model‑Driven Engineering practices.
  • Update the domain model and generator to reflect your proposed approach.
  • Demonstrate the improved workflow using practical examples.
  • Document your results and share them with the team.

This is a bachelor or masters (thesis) internship for a minimum of 4-6 months, 4-5 days per week (3 days on‑site). The start date of this internship is as of September 2026 (earlier possible).

Your profile

To be a perfect match with this internship, you:

  • Are pursuing a bachelors or master’s degree in computer science or a closely related field.
  • Have experience with one or more programming languages such as C++, Python, or shell scripting.
  • Familiarity with model‑driven engineering is an appreciated extra
  • Are analytical and able to structure complex information clearly.
  • Are collaborative and enjoy working with colleagues from different disciplines.
  • Are proactive and interested in understanding how advanced systems operate.

This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.).
