Job Description Summary
The Director of Human Resources leads and manages the Human Resources team and reports directly to the Vice President of Business Affairs/CFO. The Human Resources Director assumes full management responsibility of HR-related functions including recruitment, employee relations and retention, and total rewards for the University community. This role is crucial in fostering a positive workplace environment, enhancing employee engagement, and ensuring compliance with labor laws.
Job Description
DUTIES AND TASKS:
- Strategic Leadership: In collaboration with leaders and under the oversight of the Vice President of Business Affairs/CFO, develops and executes strategies that align Human Resources strategy with organizational goals.
- HR Team Oversight: Provides direct supervision and oversight of the HR Operations Managers and Total Rewards Manager, providing guidance and support to ensure effective HR service delivery. Develops and implements continued improvements to the HR functions such as recruitment, onboarding, employee service support, HRIS-related support, total rewards, and employee wellness.
- Employee Relations: Provides support in addressing complex employee relations issues, managing conflict resolution, and ensuring a positive employee experience. This role also serves as a Hearing Officer in staff-related hearings under the University’s Title IX program.
- Performance Management: Builds and leverages relationships across the organization to drive change and support leaders in achieving their goals. Provides direction and implements initiatives that support improved working relationships, department and organizational efficiency, and improved productivity.
- Total Rewards: Oversees total rewards benefits and employee recognition programs to increase employee satisfaction and well-being through the appropriate use of available resources.
- Budgeting and Forecasting: In collaboration with the Vice President of Business Affairs/CFO, oversees the development and administration of department budgets; assists with forecasting of funds needs for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; approves expenditures and implements budgetary adjustments as appropriate and necessary.
- HR Metrics and Reporting: Reviews trends and metrics related to the HR function to recommend the development of solutions, programs, and policies. Develops relationships with senior level managers and faculty to understand business needs and provide directives to improve hiring, retention, and employee wellbeing.
- Manages specific projects as determined by the Vice President of Business Affairs/CFO.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field required. Master’s Degree or HR certification (SHRM-CP, SPHR) preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in Human Resources, preferably in the area of Generalist, HR Business Partner or Total Rewards related duties.
- Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience, preferably in Human Resources.
- Strong Knowledge of human resource laws, regulations and best practices in addition to applicable federal, state, and local policies, laws, and regulations.
- Experience developing and maintaining relationships to drive change at all levels of leadership from first line supervisors to executives as well as employees.
- Advanced principles and practices of human resources management including compensation, position classification and analysis, benefits management and worker's compensation.
- Experience with HRIS systems (preferably Workday), Microsoft Office Suite, and data analysis.
- Prior experience working in higher education preferred.

- Demonstrate sensitivity and understanding of the diverse employee and student base.
- Support the university in achieving its mission, vision, and strategic goals as appropriate in carrying out the duties of this position.
- Ability to focus on supporting student success, service excellence, and support of the core values of the university.
