What you will do:
Operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts for electro-mechanical products. Tasks will include machining, welding, and inspection of subassemblies and assemblies as requested by your supervisor.
How you will do it:
- Set up and operate CNC mill to machine precision metal parts/assemblies.
- Set up and operate CNC lathe to machine precision metal parts/assemblies.
- Measure and inspect parts/assemblies to ensure conformance to specifications.
- Clean and deburr parts/assemblies as required.
- Clean and maintain mill, lathe, and welder as required.
- Assemble components into complete subassemblies and assemblies as required, including occasional fill-in work or repair work. The assembly work will include the following operations/tasks: (a) press fit components together by heating and fitting, (b) use hand tools to assemble units, with precision and attention to detail, and (c) use adhesives to attach components and secure wires and coils.
- Provide production communications and data as required using computers.
- Participate in continuous improvement efforts.
- Maintain a safe working environment and a commitment to safety excellence.
- Maintain a clean and orderly workplace.
- Understand and comply with the quality policy, procedures, and instructions to ensure product quality, customer satisfaction, attainment of business goals, and environmental well-being.
What we look for:
- A high school diploma or GED is required. A two-year technology degree is preferred.
Experience
- Experience with close-tolerance machining. At least two years’ experience in a machine shop or light industrial setting required. Experience with statistical process control and quality systems preferred.
Language
- Must be able to read, write and speak English.
Skills
- CNC machine set up and operating skills. Programming skills desired. General welding skills preferred. Mechanical inspection and measurement skills. Must be able to read, understand, and follow blueprints and diagrams. Must be able to read, understand, and follow assembly instructions. Must be able to use hand tools such as screwdriver, pliers, micrometers, and others. Must be able to operate small lifts, pallet jacks, forklifts and other lifting equipment (training will be provided on our specific equipment but need basic skills beforehand). Must be able to understand mechanical assembly. Must have patience, attention to detail, and willingness to learn. Interpersonal and teamwork skills.
Physical Demands
- A machine must be able to be on feet all shift. A machinist must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds unassisted, and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Must be able to use hands for assembly and tool usage. Must not have allergies or issues related to handling metals including aluminum, copper, bronze, and steel.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- While performing the duties of this position, employees will be regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and risk of electrical shock. While all reasonable safety procedures are used, employee has to be comfortable in this environment. Employees will also be exposed to adhesive fumes, airborne particles and heat. While the work area is normally clean, safe and not loud there are machines making parts so some noise and metal flakes can be expected.
