Job Description
The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Associate/Journey NETWORK ENGINEER, Information Technology [R0146634].
ROLE of the POSITION
Associate Network Engineer
Primary responsibilities include working in collaboration with other Network Development and Engineering staff to assist with the implementation, design, operation and maintenance of the UNLV enterprise network. The enterprise network is composed of routers, switches, firewalls, security appliances, wireless controllers, access points, broadband radios, and inside/outside cable plant infrastructure. This position will also provide support assistance for DNS, DHCP, VPN, SYSLOG, TACACS, and other infrastructure related services.
The Associate Network Engineer will assist with installing, upgrading, configuring, troubleshooting and supporting these and other UNLV networking components based on the defined network standards and procedures. The person holding this position will assist in the consultation with internal and external clients, as requested, to provide solutions to unique network requirements.
The Associate Network Engineer will participate in a weekly on-call rotation and respond to and schedule network outages outside of business hours.
Customer Service Expectations: This position is responsible for maintaining a customer-focused approach in all duties, ensuring professional, timely and effective interactions with internal and external stakeholders. To provide excellent service the employee will: listen to customers and understand their needs; help customers solve problems; demonstrate an eagerness to help; exhibit a professional disposition; be approachable, respectful, and team-oriented; take ownership of inquiries and assignments; provide updates for customers; and be familiar with the basic operations of the university in order to understand customer needs better.
Journey Network Engineer

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires an earned Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) along with the following:
Associate Network Engineer
Required
A minimum of one (1) year of related professional experience is required. Credentials must be obtained prior to the start of employment.
Preferred
A Cisco CCNA is preferred
The incumbent must have specific skill and knowledge in the following areas:
KNOWLEDGE
Required
Understanding network fundamentals, LAN switching technologies, routing technologies, network infrastructure services (DNS, DHCP, Radius, Syslog), and network infrastructure maintenance
Working knowledge and experience with networking components (routers, switches, access points), preferably Cisco equipment
Working knowledge and experience with basic network protocols
Working knowledge of common desktop operating systems including Windows, Mac OS-X, and Linux
Preferred
Knowledge of layer-3 routing protocols
Understanding of cloud infrastructure
SKILLS
Required
Basic network troubleshooting and problem-solving.
Network device configuration from command-line and graphical interfaces
Basic planning of network maintenance and activities
Strong organizational skills

A minimum of three (3) years of professional experience with Cisco or Juniper router and switch installation and configuration.

CCNA, CCNP certification or equivalent is preferred.

Proficient with networking components (routers, switches, firewalls, access points, wireless controllers, unified communication), network protocols and technology (e.g. OSPF, MPLS, IPv4, IPv6, FHRP)
Knowledge with structured cabling system and outside cable plant
Hands-on experience with configuration and troubleshooting networking components
Hands-on experience with installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of wireless access points, wireless management systems and associated technologies

Salary range for this role is as follows:
Associate: $76,700 to $79,000
Journey: $82,900 to $87,900
