The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is seeking compassionate and committed individuals to join our team as Religious Coordinator at the Youth Rehabilitation and Treatment Center in Omaha. This position will provide essential support and guidance to male youth. This vital role directly supports our mission of Helping People Live Better Lives.


 

About the Role

The religious coordinator is responsible for coordinating the religious and volunteer activities, and services provided to the youth at YRTC Omaha.

Key Responsibilities

The Religious Coordinator will:

  • Coordinate and conduct religious services and activities at the facility

  • Provide individual religious counseling services

  • Assist youth in interpreting and integrating religion as part of a treatment or rehabilitation program

  • Recruit and supervise volunteers to assist with the program in order to maximize services and program effectiveness

  • Develop policies, goals and standards for the overall religious and volunteer program to ensure appropriate programming for youth by assessing needs and determining how those needs can be met.

  • Consult with youth at the facility to establish a relationship and provide information on the religious and volunteer program

  • Serve as department division head at staff meetings.

  • Serve as liaison between the facility and local community churches, synagogues, and other religious, civic and service organizations

Work Schedule

The training schedule is generally Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The work schedule for this full-time position is Sunday through Thursday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and will require some weeknights, weekends, and/or holidays as needed.

Wage

$22.912/hour, additional $3/hour facility differential pay when working

Requirements/Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Post high school coursework and/or experience in theology, sociology, psychology, counseling, or other behavioral sciences areas.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with Youth

Other: Valid driver's license or the ability to provide independent authorized transportation for work-related travel.

Work Environment & Expectations

The Youth Rehabilitation and Treatment Center in Omaha will be opening in mid-late 2026. This program was established to provide services to male youth and offers evidence-based cognitive behavioral, skill-building and substance abuse programming, including:

  • Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT)

  • Aggression Replacement Training (ART)

  • Adolescent Community Reinforcement Approach (A-CRA)

  • Lion Heart's Power Source Program

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

  • Additional groups include youth feedback and team building.

  • Individual therapy is also offered to youth with behavioral, mental health, and substance abuse needs. Therapists use an integrated care model to address co-occurring issues.

  • Youth who have the need will receive management for psychotropic medications through a contracted Adolescent Psychiatrist or a Psychiatric APRN.

  • Case Managers and therapists work together to develop case plans with outcomes determined by each youth's risks and needs. Other assessments are used to determine treatment needs.

  • Youth can earn incentives and privileges based on positive behavior. Incentives can include group outings, special treats, or other fun on-campus or off-campus activities.

  • Youth may also participate in community service projects, based on positive behaviors, and earned privileges.
