Enterprise Services (ES) is responsible for the world leading application of technology and operations across every aspect of CommBank, from innovative product platforms for our customers to essential tools within our business. Lead a high performing team of engineers, responsible for resourcing, delivery and technical quality. Drive key strategic initiatives, providing technical thought leadership and vision across the engineering community.

You will contribute to the financial well-being of our customers by ensuring that our team builds the best solutions possible using modern development practices that ensure both functional and non-functional needs are met.

You will have oversight of technical designs, ensuring that they are fit for purpose, and you will provide technical oversight to delivery planning and execution.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • People management and practice leadership across multiple teams in different regions.
  • Recruitment, induction and retention of high quality software engineers.
  • Work closely with delivery leadership to ensure that appropriately team members are assigned and the skills mix meets current and predicted needs.
  • Mentor and support career development for engineers.
  • Contributes to technology and manages strategic implementation across teams.
  • Technical ownership of key assets, including roadmaps and technical direction.
  • Ensures that technical delivery processes are tuned for quality and efficiency.
  • Provide advice to portfolio executives and delivery teams on how to best organise technical delivery.
  • Sets and drives the agenda for key strategic initiatives.
  • Collaborate with various architecture, infrastructure and service management leaders.
  • Drive cultural and process changes supporting modern delivery practices.

Essential Skills:

  •  Experience: 15+ years of industry experience in enterprise-level engineering, preferably in in high-volume transaction processing, API-oriented platforms. 
  • Expertise in event-driven architectures (Kafka, MQ) and orchestration (Apache Camel, Temporal, MuleSoft, Experience in distributed, low latency environments.
  • Language orientation: Experience on C#, .NET Framework Core, essential. SOAP/REST APIs, Microservices and containerisation a plus. Node, Python and scripting knowledge useful Working experience with Agile methodologies.
  • Cloud: Experience on cloud migrations and deployment, with preference for AWS Cloud 
  • Artificial Intelligence: Experience in AI technologies, particularly around tooling enhancements will be valued.
  • CI/CD: Familiarity with usage and configuration of fully automated pipelines is useful. This includes GitHub Actions, Artifactory and CloudFormation 
  • DevOps: Familiarity with DevOps-managed environments. Specifically around observability tools (Splunk, Grafana, Promethius, PagerDuty)
  • Test Automation: Unit/Integration/Acceptance/Performance testing experience in API.
  • Security: Defence in depth, including identity management, encryption and public cloud security obligations
  • Databases: Relational databases (e.g. Postgres / Oracle), as well as data warehousing and No-SQL databases (MongoDB).

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree/master’s degree in engineering in Computer Science/Information Technology
