We are Vicinity.

Role purpose

The key purpose of the Retail Design Manager (RDM) is to lead and manage the tenancy design review process, working closely with retailers and their designers to proactively drive high quality design outcomes and highlight opportunities throughout the design approval process.

The role plays a critical part to all new leasing deals and renewals, proactively working with our retail partners in developing and evolving tenant design to enhance Centre presentation and contribute to the ambience and physical environment of Vicinity centres as a leading shopping destination.

Key Responsibilities

  • Initiate early contact with tenants and their retail designers ensuring they are clear on design expectations to Vicinity Design Guidelines and understand drawing timelines to meet handover dates.

  • Review all design submissions for allocated Centres and tenancy spaces and actively negotiate and influence design submissions to achieve better outcomes, ensuring they are designed in accordance with the Vicinity Design Guidelines and to the precinct’s design aspirations.

  • Provide retail focussed design solutions that promote and empower the retailers brand to assist in driving sales for our retailers in our Centres

  • Monitor timing of design drawing submissions so they are on track with milestones to allow for permits, procurements and tendering in time to meet handover dates.

  • Provide Leasing teams with Design Critique Reports (DCR) for lease renewals with refit requirements that will provide uplift to the tenancy and Centre presentation

  • Attend pre-start meetings with shopfitters to clarify any details to ensure they build to approved drawings

  • Collaborate with Tenancy Delivery and Operations and regularly monitor progress of fit outs against approved drawings, inspecting build quality and identifying defects early to prevent delays in opening.

  • Attend regular Centre Asset Review (CAR) meetings for allocated centres and work closely with Vicinity Leasing & Centre teams to provide design updates and input towards Leasing strategy plans

  • Work closely with the Vicinity Leasing and Delivery teams and provide design input for reconfigurations and Centre ambience projects

  • Provide regular/monthly Centre design mallscape slides showing the design status to keep Leasing and internal teams abreast and engaged on new fit outs to the Centre
