RSM US LLP is seeking a Partner to join our Accounting Standards Group. This Partner will serve as an expert level subject matter expert on accounting topics and will collaborate across the enterprise. This individual will have primary responsibility to lead the development of thought leadership, policies, and training related to these topics, as well as being a thought leader throughout the profession.

This Partner will engage both internally and externally to provide prospectives of the middle market to standard setters

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the development and maintenance of the Firm’s accounting guidance, which may require collaborating with other members of the National Professional Standards Group, Assurance, Tax and Consulting practices, to enable others to address existing and new accounting standards, emerging practice issues and Firm initiatives

  • Serve as a lead subject matter expert on multiple accounting topics, which includes development of other subject matter experts and specialists as well as performance of consultations on the most complex issues for assurance and consulting clients

  • Develop and/or review correspondence on regulatory accounting matters

  • Develop and/or review comment letters on accounting matters

  • Participate in the development and/or delivery of accounting curriculum

  • Serve as a resource to the Office of General Counsel as an accounting expert

  • Monitor and engage in the activities of relevant standard setting bodies (e.g., FASB, IASB, PCC) to provide the voice of the middle market to their standard setting

  • Represent RSM through participation in professional organizations and standard setting bodies at the national and international levels

  • Actively engage with the Office of Risk Management and Quality Management departments to provide support during engagement inspections and in the evaluation and determination of root cause and other causal factors that gave rise to negative events related to accounting consultations

  • Maintain a high level of organization and project management skills

  • Enhance the talent experience as a performance advisor and mentor

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • CPA required

  • Minimum 12 years progressive experience in a regulatory body or national CPA Firm involved in the Assurance practice or equivalent, including a minimum of five years managing others

  • Experience performing audit engagements conducted in accordance with both PCAOB Standards and U.S. GAAS

  • Must exhibit an exceptional client service attitude, possess outstanding people skills and take a proactive approach in working with employees

  • Ability to exercise sound professional judgment and technical discretion on matters of significance

  • Exercises strong written and verbal communication skills to report matters of significance to internal and external stakeholders.

Location and Travel

  • The location is open, with a preference to be located in a city with an RSM office.

  • Travel required for participation with professional organizations, continuing professional education, internal meetings and various projects and work streams. Travel will be determined in advance and agreed-upon.
