Job Description Summary:

This position is responsible for providing complete, accurate, and timely billing. He/She may also be responsible for registering patients and initiating certification process for patient treatment as needed.

Responsibilities And Duties:

60%
Provides accuracy and attention to detail in data entry for third-party billing. Resolves billing issues with physicians, third-parties, and billing vendors. Tracks and retains forms and data for audit trail purposes. May confer with patients regarding third-party benefits and payment arrangements for any anticipated patient balance.
20%
Contacts insurance company to verify benefits. Communicates limitation of benefits to appropriate staff. Assists in problem solving for insurance denials as needed. Rebills accounts when new information is received which requires accounts to be updated with appropriate demographic and third-party Payor information to insure payment. Updates patients record to indicate changes made.

Reviews patient face sheet for completion and accuracy. Initiates certification process and may perform inpatient/outpatient registration and/or pre-registration.

Participates in continuing education on regulatory issues appropriate to billing, coding, and medical terminology.

Additional duties as required e. g. , may be cross-trained with reception

Minimum Qualifications:

High School or GED (Required)

Additional Job Description:

Knowledge of medical terminology. Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and Insurance billing. Typing skills of 5 0-70 wpm. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with public and patients. Knowledge of Microsoft Office products. One to two years previous billing Experience in a medical office/hospital environment.
