Job Summary:


The flow coordinator is responsible for the safe and efficient daily operation of the Cath & EP Labs. The coordinator is responsible for ensuring optimal patient care delivery while maintaining essential procedural flow through the department. The coordinator is responsible for staffing assignments, scheduling of procedures, collaborating with physicians to coordinate procedure times, and collaborating with receiving unit & bed Control to ensure proper patient placement post procedure. The flow coordinator will work under the direction of the Cath Lab Manager and/or Department Director. The flow coordinator actively works to support WellStar in achieving its mission and goals, foster communication & collaborative practice, and serve as a role model to promote a professional image and expert clinical practice.


Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:


1. Coordinates the Cath Lab schedule to ensure a safe environment for patients. Ensures efficient procedure flow relative to staff & physicians.
a) Coordinated daily patient schedules.
b) Makes appropriate staff assignments.
c) Communicates with the logistics coordinator concerning any equipment problems or suggestions, new procedures, new equipment use, or experimental protocols.
d) Communicates with room team leaders regarding daily staffing, physician schedules, equipment issues and coordination of patient flow to ensure optimal productivity.
2. Promotes quality patient care.
a) Practices & promotes WellStar standards of gold.
b) Functions as a role model for clinical staff.
c) Communicates with team leaders to ensure optimal productivity.
d) Able to function as Cath lab team member during procedures, and assists when necessary.
e) Maintains clinical competency. Available for call if needed.
3. Provides input to Cath Lab management regarding staff performance. Keeps management apprised of staff issues in a timely manner.
a) Collaborates with physicians and their extenders regarding scheduling.
b) Provides input to Cath Lab management and the logistics coordinator, identifying the impact of new technology or products on clinical operations and staffing requirements.
c) Supports and participates in Process Improvement.
d) Complies and supports Cath Lab Department and WellStar Policies & Procedures
4. Ability to collaborate and coordinate with clinical educators and logistics coordinators to:
a) Coordinate ongoing educational activities
b) Provide orientees with necessary experience
c) Provide feedback concerning educational needs of staff
d) Troubleshoot equipment problems
e) Identify equipment or product needs
f) Provide feedback regarding function of equipment
Performs other duties as assigned
Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.


Required Minimum Education:

  • Associates Nursing or Diploma (Nurse) Nursing or Bachelors Nursing-Preferred


Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):


All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.

  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support or ARC-ALS - Amer Red Cross Advanced Life Support or ACLS-I - ACLS - Instructor or ACLS-P - ACLS-Provisional (180 Days) within 180 Days
  • BLS - Basic Life Support or ARC-BLS - Amer Red Cross Basic Life Support or BLS-I - Basic Life Support - Instructor
  • RN - Reg Nurse (Single State) or RN-COMPACT - RN - Multi-state Compact

Additional License(s) and Certification(s):


Required Minimum Experience:


Minimum 1 year Cath Lab experience with Interventional cardiac procedure experience


Required Minimum Skills:


Extensive knowledge of invasive cardiovascular procedures
Extensive knowledge of cardiovascular procedures
Excellent communication skills
Ability to work closely with physicians and clinical staff that possess high degree of technical ability
Delegation skills are required
Has ability to prioritize
Must be able to assess staff skill level in order to make appropriate assignments
Ability to function well in stressful and emergency situations is essential
The ability to multi-task is essential
Strong customer service & interpersonal skills are essential
Inter and intra-department coordination of patient care activities
Detail oriented
Able and willing to provide procedural support as needed
Personal time management skills are required.
