Surgical internship
The purpose of this internship is to provide a practical hands-on training experience within Soft Tissue and Orthopaedics, gaining practical clinical experience and learning from the specialists within a referral practice environment. You will:
MAIN AREAS OF WORK AND TRAINING
This role supports the Soft Tissue and Orthopaedic teams with the care of patients working with both the clinical and non-clinical teams. - both veterinary clinicians and veterinary nursing teams. You will be involved with all aspects of the care of patients referred to our surgical services including admitting and discharging patients, diagnostic procedures, assisting with surgery and anaesthesia and ensuring excellent communication within the hospital.
You will have completed a rotating internship, have great people skills, love to work within a team, and have a passion for all things surgical! Paragon is a small, supportive and friendly team and, as a proactive member, you we aim to provide a service of the highest possible standards in a busy, stimulating and supportive environment.
The successful candidate will benefit from both a busy and dynamic clinical environment and formal training. Interns will participate in hospital rounds, journal and book clubs and are encouraged to complete a small research project or audit. Weekend cover is based on a shared rota with other clinicians assuring a healthy work-life balance.

Paragon is a purpose-built diplomate led multidisciplinary referral hospital. It is situated just outside the City of Wakefield. The centre opened its doors in 2018 so the centre is still new and benefits from its clean and modern design.

There is plenty to do in the surrounding area for adults, families and children with Yorkshire Sculpture Park, National Trust properties and endless walks either in the Peak District, Yorkshire moors or Yorkshire dales.
The hospital boasts state of the art equipment.
We are keen to support development of vets throughout their careers and have a number of residency programmes as well as a rotating internship.
Paragon has an exceptionally friendly team for which you can feel the friendly team atmosphere as soon as you enter the building. They also benefit from having anaesthetists and two ECC diplomates on site and an exceptional nurse team They also have a dedicated nurse training lead who is responsible for quality training, mentoring and supporting the nurses who all undertake regular training and specific area inductions. The team also comprise of globally recognised diplomates in medicine, oncology, anaesthesia, soft tissue surgery, orthopaedics, cardiology, neurology and ECC.
