Underwriters on the Strata Underwriting Managers team are key to the success of the Strata Program. This role requires good written, verbal communication skills, some light travel, and marketing capabilities, good organizational skills, and a strong work ethic.

Essential Functions:

Individuals at this level should be able to perform each essential duty. The essential functions listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required by a Underwriter.

  • E&S property underwriting experience
  • Strong understanding of common property policy language
  • Ability to follow underwriting protocol based on submission information, guidelines, and underwriting experience
  • Must be willing to think “outside the box” as is required for E&S exposures
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work and contribute in a team environment
  • Ability to follow underwriting guidelines and adhere to prescribed underwriting authority
  • Ability to manage producer relationships with some marketing and light travel requirements
  • Pro-actively manage portfolio for ongoing success of the Program
  • Stay abreast of competition and market dynamics
  • Experience with larger (TIV) accounts - $100M+ in TIV
  • Ability to work efficiently, independently, and have strong time management skills
  • Some General Liability experience is helpful
     

Skills Required:

  • Able to exercise independent judgement and understand and communicate regarding complex transactions, policy language, and underwriting thought process.
  • Excellent skills in conducting in-depth investigations on underwriting criteria
  • Prepare and effectively present recommendations
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships our wholesale producers
  • Proficiency in MS Office including Word and Excel
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and leadership skills, able to work well under deadlines in a changing environment and perform multiple tasks effectively and concurrently
  • Demonstrate ability to work effectively under pressure and within a collaborative team-oriented environment using sound judgment and decision-making
  • Must possess strong communication, teamwork, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills both internally and externally.
  • Perform other related job duties as directed or needed.

Education:

  • BS/BA degree or commensurate work experience is required.
