Job Description
Our San Diego, CA location is seeking a Mechanical Product Engineer to add to our talented Bushnell Golf team. Reporting to the Mechanical Product Engineer, this individual will work directly with Engineering and Product Managers to develop new and redesign existing products for global launch.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and support new product development projects and support as needed with sustaining engineering efforts.
- Develop product specifications (design inputs) for internal development and /or outside partners, including performance requirements, reliability targets, test plans, and acceptance criteria.
- Apply previous product development experience to anticipate issues and proactively address concerns early in the product development cycle
- Acts as subject matter expert (SME) in analyzing complex multi-part designs for manufacturability and reliability, metal manufacturing processes and finishes, design for ingress protection levels typically up to IPx7, analyzing field failures and resolving related technical issues
- Develop and execute internal and MIL-STD test procedures in the lab, in the factory and in the field.
- Create test fixtures using various manufacturing techniques, including 3D printing and machining.
- Identify and pursue opportunities to extend existing technologies into new product applications that address niche or differentiated markets. Use simulation and prototyping to assess feasibility.
- Develop and maintain product documentation including change orders and specifications.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to communicate development timelines and critical milestones associated with launching newly developed products.
- Manage multiple, parallel projects using formal project management stage gate processes.
- Complete independent analysis of elements/systems as required, including competitive analysis reviews and summary competitive reports in support of Marketing collateral and positioning.
- Provide technical leadership for assigned product categories. In that capacity will evaluate or qualify product concepts/ samples and address technical questions / issues and serve as technical liaison between Vista Outdoor and vendors/customers as necessary.
- Assist in identifying and qualifying partners and vendors.
- Occasional domestic and international travel may be required.
Qualifications:
- BS in Engineering (preferably Mechanical Engineering) from a four-year college or university
- Proficient in 3D CAD (Solidworks a plus) and ability to model highly complex parts
- Minimum 3 years of experience in mechanical part design and product development for consumer products
- Experience guiding consumer product development from concept through manufacturing
- Experience with safety, environmental and IEC product regulatory compliance
- Expert in engineering design principals (design for manufacturing, FMEA, tolerance stack up, etc.)
- Computer literate with experience in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Personable with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Interest in golf and outdoor sports is a plus - we serve a passionate user base, so an understanding of their interests, issues and unmet needs is essential to creating meaningful product innovations.
- Willingness to travel internationally to manufacturers in Asia.
- Must have international passport and be able to obtain necessary visas for international travel
- Fluent in English

Pay Range:
$75,300.00 - $112,900.00
The actual annual salary offered to a candidate will be based on variables including experience, geographic location, education, and skills/achievements, and will be mutually agreed upon at the time of offer.
