We are recruiting for a Supervisor to join the Consumer Finance Directorate at the FCA, offering the chance to make a difference to the 40 million consumers of financial products and the stability of our economy.

We welcome candidates with financial sector or regulatory expertise, but this is not essential. What matters is that you have ability to use your curiosity and drive to identify harms and take appropriate steps to address them to ensure that the right outcome is achieved for consumers.

The Credit & Debt Services team supervises a wide range of firms across three portfolios: Credit Reference Agencies, Debt Advice, Debt Collections, Purchase and Administration. Our work is focussed towards driving improvements for consumers and the portfolios at a time of considerable change in the UK’s financial sector including helping tackle the ongoing impacts of the cost-of-living. Our priority is to ensure consumer interests are central to the firms within each of our portfolios. We expect customers to be treated fairly and be able to get affordable products and services that meet their needs.

The role will give you the opportunity to build excellent stakeholder, investigative and project management skills, taking action that improves the way firms in Consumer Finance operate ultimately delivering better outcomes for consumers. We are looking for people with sound judgement and investigative/diagnostic skills and experiences and welcome applications from a full range of backgrounds and industries.

What you will be doing

  • Review and analyse information and data collected from firms to help assess a firm's business model and identify risks that could cause harm to consumers
  • Support our work in suggesting ways to solve problems identified within firms and the wider credit markets
  • Draft clear and concise correspondence to firms and internal stakeholders
  • Develop constructive working relationships with colleagues and communicate effectively with team members about the progress of tasks
  • Ensure internal record management systems are up to date and compliant with our protocols
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of internal processes by suggesting changes that result in better outcomes and efficient use of resources
  • Help to embed and oversee the implementation of the new consumer duty

Minimum

  • Experience of retail lending/consumer finance or regulatory expertise
  • Experience of assessing and analysing information and presenting

Essential

  • Managing your time effectively and using sound judgement to achieve results across priority issues and in a high-pressure environment
  • Ability to demonstrate that you take ownership of problems and drive forward pragmatic action-based solutions
  • Ability to prepare papers ahead of firm meetings, prepare briefing notes to internal stakeholders and engage effectively with firms in writing to support delivery of good consumer outcomes
  • Experience of identifying the business model, financial or regulatory risks posed by firms, the consumer harms which might result from these risks and appropriate tools for mitigation
  • An understanding and experience of dealing with issues impacting consumers in vulnerable circumstances
  • Work collaboratively and inclusively with colleagues from different perspectives and backgrounds across a portfolio of projects and workstreams
  • Build and maintain strong and effective relationships with colleagues and with key contacts
  • Experience of the regulatory framework including handbook rules and guidance
