Inside the Role

Directly lead a team of Skilled Tradesmen in supporting maintenance activities in the Heavy Duty Engine (HDE) Machining Operations. Machining operations to include: Bearing Caps, Blocks, Connecting Rods, Heads, Liners, and Turbo Machining & Assembly Operations. The Maintenance Supervisor strives to maintain the operational readiness of all machining equipment, working cross-functionally with Maintenance Engineers, Controls Engineers, Skilled Trades Leaders, and Operations & Quality Department support team members.

Position offers a starting salary range of $104,000 – $133,000 USD

Pay offered dependent on knowledge, skills, and experience.

**This role is 3rd shift- 11:00pm- 7:00am**

What You Drive at DTNA 

  • Provide direct supervision of Skilled Trades Electricians, Pipefitters, Machine Repairmen, Millwright / Welders, and Toolmakers.

  • Coordinate manpower & material resources supporting all critical machine breakdown repairs, with strong interaction across all three shifts of support team members.

  • Assist and support team members in the troubleshooting efforts of complex machining equipment downtime issues, utilizing practical & structured problem-solving processes and root cause analysis.

  • Manage timecards, attendance, training, and overtime systems. 

  • Plan, schedule, and execute planned maintenance job plans, standard work instructions, and emergency maintenance tasks. 

  • Support a collaborative team of Skilled Trades, Controls & Process Engineers in the diagnosing & repairs of CNC and Assembly Machining Operations. 

  • Assist Skilled Tradesmen in use of technical drawings & OEM documentation needed to troubleshoot faults, diagnose equipment failure, and facilitate repairs.

  • Attend SFM meetings and work closely with Operations Team to improve equipment up-time by reducing MTBF & MTTR and improve the overall reliability and safety of machining equipment. 

  • Interface with employee Labor Relations personnel and local UAW Shop Committee representatives. 

  • Evaluate work of Skilled Tradesmen, enforce contractual agreements & company safety policies, complete Leader performance reviews, and provide constructive criticism and discipline to team members as necessary.

  • Coach and mentor the daily activities of direct reports

  • Support and facilitate a safe and ethical working environment and culture

  • Coach, motivate, and develop team members to higher levels of performance

  • Clarify expectations, regularly communicate, provide ongoing performance feedback, and counsel assigned employees

  • Track and monitor shift, team, and individual employee performance

  • Utilize assigned team leader(s) in Lean Principles to promote and develop a continuous improvement culture

  • Effectively support and follow all policies outlined in the contract, handbook, and/or policy guide

Knowledge You Should Bring 

  • BS/BA and 5-7 years of relevant experience or 6+ years relevant experience in lieu of a degree

  • Maintenance Supervisory experience in a manufacturing / machine shop environment with 6 years of relative experience. 

  • Knowledge of or ability to apply Lean/Continuous improvement tools and principles

  • Knowledge of safety codes and standards.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). 

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, and strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with others.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Analytical ability to solve complex problems.

  • Ability to read & interpret AutoCAD drawings of equipment, hydraulic, pneumatic, and general electrical circuits.

  • Prior experience leading teams or projects to achieve elevated levels of performance and engagement in a manufacturing or logistics setting is required•

  • Decision maker for daily activities that are guided by policy, procedures, and business plans with oversight from manager
  • Coordinates the resources of team and set daily priorities to meet operational objectives
  • Primarily supervises the work of entry and intermediate level professional individual contributors or large numbers of shop floor employees in operations, manufacturing, and/or logistics
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to use tact and diplomacy to exchange information, handle sensitive issues, and translate, simplify, and clarify information for employees is required

  • Must be willing and able to complete all required Supervisor training and apply learnings.

 

Exceptional Candidates Might Have 

  • BS degree in Mechanical / Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical / Electrical Engineering Technology preferred. 

  • years Supervisory experience in a manufacturing / machine shop environment.

  • Familiarity with Maximo, SAP, and Outlook.

  • Operational understanding of fluid systems (pneumatic, hydraulic, coolant, and lubrication).

  • Operational understanding of metal cutting, press force monitoring, material handling automation, washing, and machining processes.

  • Experience in an operational environment; i.e., manufacturing, distribution, or transportation preferred
